 CHUCK CLOSE AND CHRISTOPHER FINCH
Book Signing: Saturday, November 5, 12-2pm
Blum & Poe is very pleased to announce a book signing with Chuck Close and author Christopher Finch in conjunction with the exhibition Chuck Close, which opens to the public Saturday, October 29, 6 - 8pm and will remain on view through December 22. The book signing will feature Finch's recent publications Chuck Close: Work and Chuck Close: Life. These two books offer a comprehensive critical examination of one of America's most celebrated living artists and are the first to place all aspects of Close's career in a biographical context.
Finch conducted hundreds of studio visits and thousands of hours of conversations since he met Close in 1968 when Finch was an associate curator at the Walker Art Center. The narrative in Chuck Close: Work is richly illustrated with more than 300 images of almost all of his paintings and supplemented with a selection of prints, multiples, and examples of his photographic work. In Chuck Close: Life, Finch chronicles Close's childhood battles with illness and dyslexia, his rise to prominence in the art world, and his courageous battle to overcome a near career-ending occluded spinal artery that left him a partial quadriplegic.
Chuck Close (b. 1940, Monroe, WA) lives and works in New York. He received his B.A. from the University of Washington, Seattle and his B.F.A and M.F.A. from Yale University School of Art and Architecture. Throughout his distinguished career, he has been the recipient of many honors and retrospective exhibitions and his work is in the permanent collection of over 70 public institutions worldwide.
Christopher Finch has written hundreds of essays and more than two-dozen books. After studying painting at Chelsea Art School in London, Finch went on to write for numerous art magazines and is well known for his essays on Pop Art. Starting in the mid-seventies, he began a series of books on popular culture that included the bestsellers The Art of Walt Disney, Rainbow: the Stormy Life of Judy Garland, and Norman Rockwell's America.Â
