In April 1991, Christopher Chase was found dead in his home. The medical examiner concluded that the 35 year old died of heart failure. Christopher was healthy, had no heart defects and did not smoke or use alcohol. According to his friends Christopher was convinced he was cursed by a witch after turning down advances from a woman he met in San Francisco. Before his death he claimed that the woman was attacking him at night in his home. When he didnât respond to any calls the police did a welfare check and he was found in his bathtub surrounded by salt, candles and multiple crucifixes. The apartment had talismans and crucifixes all over the walls. Oddly Christopher was found kneeling in his tub as if he was reciting a prayer. Although the official cause of death was natural causes, Christopher as well as many others believe he was cursed and eventually died at the hands of a witch.

âA feeling of deep relatedness arises when we open our hearts (and minds) to the TRUTH of the Sacred Unity and CONNECTION we share with the people around us, the Earth, the sun, moon, clouds, galaxies, tigers, lions, elephants, atoms, dragonflies, flowers and stars...â

âEducation is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.âÂ
- Socrates
Children are born to be curious, sociable, skillful, joyful and empathetic. Their minds are creative and flexible, their hearts trusting and open. They come into the world with brains designed to learn from their local environment, to interact skillfully with the people and objects that surround them.
They enjoy experimenting with new things and investigating whatever interests them. They learn languages and gain new skills easily, as long as they are respected, assisted (when needed) and encouraged.
Maria Montessori understood this, and taught that the role of educators is to organize learning environments so that they facilitate self-discovery, creativity, concentration and collaborative exploration.
Children learn best when learning is meaningful, playful and self-directed. There is no need for constant control, monitoring, external rewards and punishments. In fact, such authoritarian efforts tend to deter childrenâs learning, deaden their natural motivation and curiosity.
They will put time and effort into mastering skills and helping one another. They have a natural desire to make things, to communicate, be creative and competent, sociable and successful.
Teachers and parents have an important role to play with this, but attempts to over-control the natural learning process will immediately begin to snuff it out. Rigid expectations, standardized testing and comparisons of children to one another is psychologically harmful, as no two children will learn in the exact same way or at the same rate.
Provide extra help for those who are struggling, but make sure itâs done with love, respect and good intentions. Bottom line, children lose interest when adults are too rigid, authoritarian and controlling.
They need to be free to learn.

Philosophy Quote of the Day:
Students who acquire large debts putting themselves through school are unlikely to think about changing society. When you trap people in a system of debt, they canât afford the time to think.

âLearn how to see. Realize that everything connects to everything else.â ~Leonardo da Vinci
One of the most painful feelings a person can experience is loneliness, alienation, to not feel connected to the world around us. Sadly, most "modern" humans are stuck in a fractured worldview "manufactured" for us by mainstream media, politics, economics and education.
In modern societies we are taught to ignore the connections that exist all around us, trained since childhood to see ourselves as solitary actors forced into competition with each other, disconnected from local community, the Universe and Nature.
For many of us, the economy has replaced Nature and religion, as the "God" of our lives. Disconnected from the larger wholes (we in truth belong to), we have become slaves to an economic machine. This breeds suffering, fear, scarcity, inequality, alienation, addiction, competition and violence.
Fortunately, freedom from this insane system is possible. There are doorways present every moment. Open your heart to the beauty of life, the mysterious miracle we in truth are. Reconnect with Nature, with the way the body breathes, how leaves in trees sway, and birds fly.....â

âThere are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle, the other is as though everything is..â ~Albert Einstein
âOur global species has cut reality into pieces. We compartmentalize everything, and so do not see the unity, the beauty, the wholeness that surrounds us, the living works of poetry that we are.
We've commodified the arts, we destroy and divide Nature into pieces, to sell off for profit. Our hearts and minds have been colonized by lies of technological "progress" and "development." Blocking us from seeing the sacred beauty and interconnectedness of everything our species has been destroying.Â
All that has true value has been separated in our minds and cultures. When unified, the arts, spirituality and science can be experienced as an exploration of the sacred, a journey into mystery. People forget how this world is a rare and precious gift from the Universe, from Nature.Â
There's a whole Universe that surrounds us, and lives within us, that connects us to each other. The atoms and energy that dance within you (and as you) have billions of years of history.Â
Life is more precious than diamonds or gold. Yet our values are so warped that billions of humans don't see this. We are taught to crave what is meaningless and ignore what has meaning.
Caught up in dramas and delusions of politics, economics, technology, entertainment and money, we fail to see the mystery and beauty, the sacredness of everything.
Imprisoned by false beliefs, we have forgotten that we are all living miracles, living a miracle.Â
That every flower, child, river and tree is a creative expression of the Universe, a sacred and precious gift of this beautiful mystery.Â
