▲ In Ocho Rios with ex-cousins going for refreshments
🇯🇲 My Jamaican Story
I spent a lot of time in Jamaica between 2003-10. I would stay at a regular hotel or with an ex-cousin in Ocho Rios, ex-family in Islington, St Mary or often with the Mum of the friend who first took me to JA in Clarendon's Sandy Bay. When in Kingston, my ex and I would stay with Mom in Wild St, Allman Town.
The first picture is of Sandy Bay. My friend's Mom's house is the first in May Pen Road with the red roof (next door is a church hall). We would sit on the back step looking over the fruit trees and have long conversations. She wouldn't serve me breakfast until I had drunk my 'bitters' - lol.
The road junction was a small roundabout back in the day. Right opposite the house was the 1st vendor stall in May Pen Rd (A2) and the lad who ran it used to look out for Mom. He once asked me to man his stall while he ran an errand. Nobody bought anything but I did get some strange looks.
On one of the visits with my ex-wife, we went for a walk and she suggested our company name should be Coffee and Cream because it was like us (I changed the spelling to Koffe an Kreem) and it was first used in 2006 when we set up the beauty salon for the sisters in Kingston. Our salon came in 2010 after a long search for suitable premises. We are still partners in the beauty side of the business.
