Poetry plus body image
The following is a poem by YouTube user Dodie Clark that really seemed relevant to our blog because of itās topic and medium. Let me know what you guys think?
I love my body We know thatās a lie Because I canāt wear leggings They show my big thighs I donāt conform to societyās rules! But it sure would be nice to look thin by the pool. Iām tubby and proud I say out loud But staring at my fat is not allowed Iāll pull up my tights and wear baggy tops And Google how many calories are in lollipops
They say be healthy be happy and I am neither But I donāt want to munch salad either my stomach is screaming for more than just leaves Stuff me with chocolate and chips and cheese! The three dreaded cās where the calories are in the triple digits.
It all comes back to essays
Okay so college essays! Yay! Right? NO. College essays are to be frank an oxymoron. We are expected to share something personal about ourselves with complete and total strangers. Our essays should be āgenuine, sincere, personal, meaningfulā yet there are still a thousand websites telling you how to craft the Ā āperfectā college essay. We as a school even have an entire section of our jump-start workshop dedicated to looking at the differences between āgoodā essays and ābadā ones. Ā The college board even provides example essays that are critiqued.

And on top of everything else there is a word limit. What do you guys think? I personally think if they are going to have us write these there should be no word limit but at the same time so many people are applying to college now that without one people would have to read even more information than they do now. How can anyone get to know someone with such a limited amount of characters involved?Ā

So I know that national poetry month is past but that doesnāt mean that we canāt still celebrate it! Plus incase you guys havenāt noticed Iām feeling really nostalgic latelyā¦ Plus we have already done a lot of this stuff this year and the other stuff just frankly sounds really fun!

Personal essays
Because of all the personal essays weāve been reading I started looking for one to read for next class and I found one that Iām not sure if you guys will love or not but I thought it was pretty empowering (itās not the one I chose to read and write about for next class, this is just one I thought you guys would enjoy reading). We have only touched briefly on the significance that he carries. Ā In the significance of his name we see that Lodovico: An Italian name associated with freedom, independence, and famous warrior. (Courtesy of Juliaās post.) I was wondering what you guys thought the significance was of this since he is also the last one to speak. And the significance that in Shakespeareās plays that we have studied thus far that it has always been a character that is more of an observer who carries on the story.
Languages
Ā In class we discussed that we should introduce more languages at a young age. I was wondering if you guys thought it would be easier if we introduced Greek and Latin. Because then it would be easier for kids to learn other languages later on in life because they would have learned the roots of most languages. What do you guys think?
