esme was born and raised in salem, and her family was a part of a coven there long before she came along. they owned an herb shop that they had to sell when her dad passed away. she was still in high school, but her mom never stopped growing her own plants. thatโs where esme got her love of growing from.
instead of going off to college, she hung around and worked at her motherโs side, which was fortunate because it wasnโt long after that when her mom started declining. it was small at first, leaving her keys in the door or forgetting her grocery list. pretty soon, though, she started getting lost in her own neighborhood.
though her family suggested she move her mom into a home right away, esmeโs pride for in the way. it took two years for her to understand how out of depth she was. it broke her heart to do it, but she evened it out by visiting as often as she could. it was on one of those visits that her power surfaced. as her tears dropped onto their intertwined hands, something strange happened. esme began seeing flashes of memories, ones she remembered, but it wasnโt her point of view. it was her motherโs.
at first she panicked, staying away for days before her curios desperation got the best of her. she reached out to an old friend of her parents, a woman who was a part of their coven in esmeโs childhood. it took a while, and a few pots of coffee, but esme finally came around. it was still a few days before she returned to the hospital, but when she did, the same event happened. she saw her motherโs memories through her own eyes.
her powers grew, too, over the next few years. she realized it only activated when she was touching someone and when her own emotions were heightened. she practiced on anyone she could get her hands on, and eventually she could activate it at will. but the big leap came when she was caught practicing by her very human partner.
they reacted badly, and in desperation, esme wished aloud that they had never walked in on her. the difference washed over them immediately, and suddenly they were close less as to what they were even arguing over. she remained in the relationship at first, but too soon the guilt wore her down. instead she manipulated their memories to forget their relationship altogether, and she tried to move on.
now she studies flowers and works on her gift, hoping she can one day learn to restore memories instead of manipulating them.

To the outside eye, Theodore just seems like a mild mannered nerd/scaredy cat. He can keep to himself, fearing getting too close to anyone, but I imagine he has a soft spot for his friends even if he can be withdrawn into himself and HATES being the center of attention.
He can usually be found wherever it is quietest with his laptop. He wears headphones, but usually with no sound. Theyโre really so no one talks to him, but that can only fool people for so long.
He lives on his own a few blocks away from his workplace in a one bedroom apartment with his cat roommate, Simon.
Heโs maybe the most lively when heโs teaching; he has a genuine love and joy for his students, because teaching is something thatโs become a safe place for him. Heโs good at it, and he sees the good it does in others.
He still has trouble sleeping at night, though. Terrible insomnia has him living off of coffee and pre-packaged sugary goods to get him through the day.
