Women in Mahabharata - Ahalya
Here, her usual story is not elaborated on. It's only implied that she had been unfaithful to her husband, Gautam, and so the latter had asked their son, Chirakari, to kill her and stormed off.
Chirakari, however, being an extremely indecisive person, got stuck trying to decide between obeying his father and killing his mother and keeping his mother alive to do the ashram chores and take care of his father (he did also consider that he would miss her very much if he killed her). Before he could decide, Gautam returned, now less angry, and was relieved, for once, at the fact that his son could not decide anything to save his life.
It's implied that turning Ahalya into a stone/air-borne spirit happens after this, but it is not explicitly mentioned in this text.
Another story involving her is about Uttanka's gurudakshina. When Uttanka pesters his guru Gautam, he sends him to Ahalya. She asks him to get the earrings of the wife of Saudas Kalmashapada (the same story is told in Aadi Parva with Uttanka, Veda and Pushya's Wife).
Then Uttanka met Madayanti (Saudasa's wife) after promising Saudasa (in his rakshaa form) that he'd return after delivering the earrings to Ahalya, to be eaten by the king. However, Uttanka manages to trick Saudasa in the end.
Uttanka, on his way back, forgot Madayanti's previous warnings about never leaving the earrings unattended and left them on the ground to pluck some fruit from a tree. While Uttanka was busy getting fruit, Airavata Naga's son stole the earrings, and Uttanka had to employ the help of Indra and Agni to recover them.
