advice versus advise
Summary: Advice is a noun that means āa suggestion about what one should doā. Advise is a verb that means āto give a suggestion about what one should doā.

affect versus effect
Summary: Affect is a verb that meansĀ āto impact/changeā. Effect is a noun that meansĀ āthe result of an impact/changeā.Ā
EX: That class had a postive effect on me, however it negatively affected my friendās GPA.Ā
affective versus effective
Summary: Affective is an adjective that meansĀ āinfluenced by, concerned with, or resulting from emotionsā. Effective is an adjective that meansĀ āhaving produced the intended resultā. These definitions transfer to the adverb versions of these adjectives,Ā āaffectivelyā andĀ āeffectivelyā.Ā
EX: An affectively written piece of writing may also be effective in proving your point.Ā Ā
chorus versus choir
Summary: A choirĀ refers a group of singers while aĀ chorus is a large group of singers that may include dancers. The word chorusĀ can also be used as a synonym for the refrain of a song.Ā Ā
EX: The church choir turned into a chorus once the dancers got involved.Ā
Ā chrysalis versus cocoonĀ
Summary:Ā āThe main difference between a chrysalis and a cocoon is that the latter is a life stage, while a cocoon is the actual casing around the caterpillar as it transforms.āĀ

principal versus principle
Summary: Principal can be a noun that refers to the leader of a school, association, etc. or it can be an adjective that meansĀ āof the first or highest importance or valueā. Principle is a noun that meansĀ āa rule of action or conductā.Ā
EX:Ā The principal, arguablyĀ the principal faulty member, has many principlesĀ they adhere to.

Silicone is often used in sealants, adhesives, and cosmetics.
