contemplation in the midst of evil*
Just as light and darkness do not remove each other in space, so is the enlightenment of Buddhas revealed.

At that time, Moses began to gaze upon the Primal Ether, which is the root-principle, as we have already stated, and discovered that it is obscured by two things, related to two sources. From the first flows Light and from the second, Darkness. These outpourings are drawn by channels and streams. The stream is transformed into something resembling a pipe and the pipe is transformed into something exceedingly thin, like a thread. Through this thinness, it is directed and pulled until it ejects very small droplets. These droplets then intensify and become conglomerates. The conglomerates continue to enlarge until they are extracted and emerge with great strength. They spread out and join together, until moisture emerges from them. The solidification radiates, becomes whitened and clarified, until the original conglomerates that we mentioned have been disseminated. From them emerges a kind of foam, floating on the surface of the water. All of this becomes moisture. From the moisture emerges Ruah (Breath/Spirit). It is Ruah Ha-Kodesh (the Holy Spirit).

[B]ecause the Way is present in the midst of evil, it is possible to attain and perfect saintliness even while living in the midst of these obscurations. Thus you should know that evil does not totally obstruct the Way. Nor does cultivating the Way totally obstruct evil. [...] It is like the play of light and darkness in empty space—they do not obstruct each other.
