I have a few irons here in the fire at #Detroit Pianoworks. One of then is this 1901 #chickering #piano action has been in service to a family of talented pianists for over a century. It has survived a fire at somepoint in the past, and looks to have been rebuilt twice. These old keys are tired and incompatible with the parts mounted, so the entire action is being "put under glass" and a new mechanism is to be designed and constructed. Dubbed the "Quarter Grand" (don't ask, I don't know, probably a random marketing thing) this Chickering grand (c. 1911) is full of quirks like brass flanges, narrow cheekblocks, and dampers that screw directly into the flange (😱). BUT like most Chickerings, it has a rich, beautiful tone that is rare to hear nowadays, which makes me overlook the things that annoy me from a technical standpoint. #chickering #piano #grandpiano #oldschool (at Vancouver Bible Fellowship Church)
