Do you mind if I ask about your chickens? No pressure if not, I'm just nosy curious 🐓
Absolutely!! I currently have 7 hens, all different breeds (feel free to ask me which ones)
Here are my two newest ones, LuLu and Toasty
Not pictured is Marshmallow, who escaped one night, slept on my fence AND GOT EATEN BY A FRIGGIN OWL 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. I'm still torn up about it. But plans are in the works to get Marshmallow II & Marshmallow III....
Here are Queenie (black) and the ever cantankerous Delores (red)
And the leader of the flock, Finn
Not pictured are the Dotty-Madges (both brown leghorns and I can't tell them apart, so they are collectively Dotty-Madge). They're shy and were busy laying. They're pretty great, but they could do without the heat!
One of my chickens Queenie, being very dramatic.
A little Chicken photo dump for @lilamausmaus 🤍 this is Peaches (just like lilamausmaus's kitty!) Bonus Hei Hei and Chai close ups 🥰 my babiess (pics below the cut so i don't flood your feeds lol)
Pov me when Mercy appeared :

I am here to share some chicken photos!
This is one of our roosters, named Sasha much to the confusion and dismay of my mother. He has the mystery genetics when it comes to breed.
This is Winter, she’s a Polish mix.
This is an old photo, but this was Phoenix with her daughter Torchic. We don’t have Phoenix anymore but she was super pretty and sweet. She was an Ayam Cemani and Polish mix.
Then here’s Torchic when she grew up and had her daughter Ghost. That was like… two years ago. We still have both Torchic and Ghost though I am failing to find my recent photos of Ghost. I’ll have to get one tomorrow when it’s bright out if I have the chance.
This is Spring, she is Winter’s slightly less social sister.
And yeah! Thats my current photos. Or well, the recent ones I could find. My phone has a lot of photos so navigating it can be a bit of an experience.
OH MY GOSH!!! CHICKENSSSS YAY THANK YOU FOR SHARING!! also i LOVE the name torchic lmao
One of the farm’s chickens, Annabelle, is missing. It’s been over a week since anyone’s seen her. She’s known for escaping and Mom’s previously found clutches of her eggs that she’s laid in secret around the farm.
With our 2 leghorns dead, she’s the only hen we have left that lays large white eggs, so we know she’s not returning to the coop or the hens’ favorite outdoor nesting spaces.
I see two possibilities here.
The first is that a predator got her. This is possible but depends entirely on how far away she wandered from the homestead. If she’s nearby in one of the sheds, she’s probably fine. The dogs catch or drive off damn near anything bigger than a rabbit that wanders too close. If she got to the woods, then 50/50. There’s coyotes and bobcats and foxes and weasels, but she’s a flyer and likes to stay up high generally speaking (it’s how she escapes. The fence means nothing to her).
The second is that she finally got broody. Since she usually lays clutches around the farm, this time she just hid it better and we haven’t seen her since she’s actually sitting on her eggs this time. Given how long it takes to lay a clutch and hatch the chicks, she may reappear in another 3-4 weeks with a couple of fluffballs trailing behind her.
Obviously I’m hoping for the latter, but I can’t dismiss the former. Unfortunately, all we can do is wait and see if she turns up.
