Splitting GIFs in Photoshop into Unity Animations - Part One
So far in my port of Roy-G-Blam to Unity, I only have a scrolling grid background and some static roads for testing. It’s time to add some of the animated city streets back to the background.
This is one of the city clusters animated in Photoshop frame/layer by frame/layer that I’ll be adding to the background.
Once the .gif is opened in Photoshop, select File, go to Export, and then select Layers to File.
Set the folder you want to export into and make sure to select the file format you want. As always, when I can, it’s .png. Hit Run and you’ll see Photoshop running the action on all the layers. Mine is 30 layers so it took a minute for it to finish. Time to make a sandwich.
Go to the export folder that you set in the last step (I’ll be moving these from the general art folder to something more contained shortly) and look for your individual files there.
Okay, now all the frames are in a separate folder in windows and I’m ready to add them to Unity.
I’ll run through that process in Part Two of Splitting GIFs in Photoshop into Unity Animations. I’m going to eat some homemade chicken and dumplings for now.
