GREAT DAYS AND NIGHTS IN HARLEM
Contrary to popular belief, I do not reside in the Village of Harlem. But my spirit and my soul certainly feel at home there. This weekend the weather was spectacular and I spent some much needed Family Time Uptown. Strolling up the spacious Avenues and crisscrossing the seemingly infinite blocks, I took-in THE moments, beauty, architecture and people that make Harlem such a special and historically significant place in THIS world. It made me romanticize the cultural phenomenon of the Harlem Renaissance – the presence of Langton Hughes, Zora Neale Hurston, Billie Holiday, Countee Cullen, James Van Der Zee and James Baldwin are alive and well. Hanging with friends at Corner Social, Red Rooster, Five And Diamond, Chez Lucienne, Zoma and friend’s apartments was too much fun – don’t judge me. And on Sunday morning I worshipped at First Corinthian Baptist Church and reawakened my soul. I’m grateful for the festivities, fashion and spiritually fulfilling energy of Harlem.
