he was never a product of the red room.
his training didn’t come from there, though he trained right alongside those who gained their skills in it’s underground spaces. his depth of power grows far stronger than what would have been offered to him SIMPLY as a member of the wolf spider core, and he didn’t CARE to try to make friends within it’s walls. ( not that the winter soldier ever cared much about anything. )
but bucky barnes isn’t the winter soldier, a fact he CONTINUES to remind himself of day in and day out. the connection he formed with those who went through the red room is strong, and he knows now that if he TRULY lets that connection go he will live to regret it.
melina’s closeness to natalia and yelena brought about a bond with bucky that he can’t overwrite. she is IMPORTANT to them, so she will be IMPORTANT to him. he finds himself enjoying her presence, even if it usually only comes in a time of dire need. and right now? right now he finds it in a moment of need to remind himself that he can HOPE those he cares for make the right decisions. . . and know they may not always.
“ i’m fine. ” he’d come in search of yelena, hoping to see her face now that she’d run from the family they’d all been trying to build. he meant to take melina’s comment of she isn’t here as a sign to leave, but before he knew it she had pulled him inside and made him coffee.
coffee always leads to something neither of them are good at -- feelings.
he only realizes he hasn’t spoken in three minutes when he feels her arms wrap around him and he sinks into her embrace. he wants to shove her off. . . but he can’t.
“ i just hope she’s fine. ”
