She has overstayed her welcome. He wants her out. She needs to go back to her mama, to her place, and come back maybe never? Fine, later. His mama wouldn’t be happy if he said that aloud. Hmph. 

Peeking into the living room, he clutches his stuffed fox as he watches as his mama let her sit on her lap. She’s looking over some hairpins, meanwhile is ma is brushing out her short hair. His ma let’s out a deep laugh and Naruto takes a few steps closer. Now he’s watching over the armrest of the couch. 

Why is she gettin’ so much attention from his parents? He doesn’t want to share them any longer! That’s why yesterday...he pushed her out of the way when he saw his mother bending down to give her a kiss. Well it looked that way!

He drifts back from his thoughts and realizes two pair of eyes are watching him. He ducks behind the couch and holds his fox closer and he pouts to himself. 

“Ready to say sorry to Karin, love?” He hears his mom ask. Naruto shakes his head. No he really isn’t, so he stays quiet and keeps huffing. Kushina looks at Karin and shakes her head. 

“Guess it’s just Karin, dad, and me goin’ out for ramen. The brat wants to stay home.” She shrugs while setting the brush aside. She takes the hair clip Karin selected and smiles at her. Naruto decides to stomp out from the couch at the moment, face scrunched into a scowl. More like pout, his cheeks erase anything menacing about his expression. 

“I want ramen!” He shouts, stomping his foot. He climbs onto the sofa and looks at Karin, who he catches is staring back. Maybe glarin’ at him. 

“Sorry,” he says looking off to the side, but his mother’s shakes her head clicking her tongue. 

“Do it right brat,” she says pinching his little nose. Then she gestures for him to give it a second chance. Naruto wiggles out his nose before he crawls over to the side Karin is seated on. He looks at her with a frown, still not entirely into this. When she matches his scowl, he blinks. 

“Do I gotta give her a kiss, like I do to you and pa,” he asks looking at his mother. He really doesn’t want to...but his mother shrugs and doesn’t help. Grrr. 

“You decide.” Naruto cheeks puff out again and he gets closer as he’s leaning forward to plant one, he’s suddenly thrown off balance by a harsh shove and a loud ‘no!’ When he regains his bearings, he sees Karin is looking at him with her own scowl. 

Naruto lower lip trembles.

Reading about something and understanding it were oceans apart. It was why so many people were so foolish. Why they did things without thinking.

Kakuzu couldn’t sleep the first night after the Jiongu. Nor the second. He crawled from hole to hole, exhausted, weary, all his limbs shaking like dead leaves in winter wind, feeling sick but having nothing to throw up. The vanishingly few times he collapsed, so tired that his pounding head and twisting chest could be ignored, may have been the only thing attaching his sanity to his crumpled brain.

When it was quiet, Kakuzu could hear his heartbeat. (heartbeats)

He didn’t count it anymore. He couldn’t stand the silence either.

(in the silence, he heard five heartbeats that didn’t match each other)

air(elder Ichiro, beating like a hummingbird, still afraid as he was when he watched the doors to the council room slam open)

lightning(elder Kenji, a constant pulse-pulse-pulse of energy, a low-level thrum that Kakuzu could feel in his teeth)

water(elder Sabu, a wet-eyed man who’d wept for his life, his head on the ground, please and please and please until his head was smashed into pulp)

fire(elder Shiro, the last, the one who’d raged and roared at him even when his guts spilled at his feet like slippery eels)

His heartbeat felt like the slowest one, pausing long seconds between each beat like it wondered - should I go on? should I keep doing this? - until it came, a drum beat, the rumble of the deep earth, the groaning gasp of the dark things underground.

Writing the storm thread. All of it. I loved every moment.

Plotting our ‘Sakura is mute’ verse! It was my turn to rain angst onto Julia and it was amazing to watch her suffer.

Finally shipping our two stupid muses even after miscommunications and my stubborn ass.

Yelling at her for getting me to read Banana Fish. Probably. Maybe. Hmmm…I think yelling at her in general is up there.

I wrote her a private gift for her birthday a few years ago and honestly, giving that to her was one of my favorite things. (And then she wrote me one back and it’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever read.)

Top 5 Lady ( @uchihacollector​ ) moments:

Fucking. FFVii. Her pointing out Angeal in Crisis Core. Her putting the rarest of ot3′s in the fandom in my head. Bullshit, honestly.

Her creating her Madara ( @liliummadara​ ) as a surprise for me! So much fun.

Creating Jiraiya and then letting her know. She had a meltdown in my inbox and it was glorious. Plus all the writing we’ve done since then! Pitting Jiraiya against her Oro is definitely a highlight overall.

Our first whatsapp chat. Being able to talk to her on the phone. She sounds perfect paired against her online presence and I immensely enjoy talking to her.

She’s written me so many gifts, it’s insane. How she takes interest in what interests me even if she doesn’t get it at first is amazing. And then to gift me with things like she does, I love every single thing.

Top 5 Sam moments:

Okay, honestly, our smut exchange that first time. Because we hadn’t talked at all and just went ‘fuck it’ and threw it all out there and discovered that yes, this should definitely happen more often between our muses.

Writing your giveaway prize! It was such a stretch out of my comfort zone, but I had a blast. And even thought the voice threw you off at first because it was so different from what I normally write, I loved it. Absolutely loved it. I knew that even if it took you time to get used to, I was so proud of that thing and to be able to share it with you was astonishing. (I’ve actually loved all the things I’ve written you, but that was a highlight.)

Fucking up your newly emptied inbox on Karin. This sounds dumb and ridiculous, but it was just so carefree and so fun and so…us, really, that I absolutely adored it. 

Convincing you to ship Tenzou and Sakura with me. Even if it’s not your ship and you only did it to humor me, I loved it. Just to have that other person to talk about their dynamic with was wonderful. And it also opened up our conversations to be more than Anko and Sakura. It was kinda the gateway into really delving into each other’s personalities.

Generic, but any time you ask me for advice. I don’t know, it’s…awe-inspiring that you would come to me for things, even little crazy things. Makes me feel cherished.

Top 5 RP moments:

I know this sounds crazy, but the first big backlash I had over a ship I liked. Was definitely not a top anything at the time (other than shitlist), but happening so early helped me learn how to spot the bullshit and keep it off my dash. Saved me hell over the next two years.

Meeting everyone. You, Lady, Julia, Jana, Bunny, Amaya, Aspen, Skye, Kris, Naka, everyone I’m forgetting because it’s past my bedtime and I’m enjoying my drink(s). I’ve made some amazing friends. 

Writing the tiny Sakura and Fugaku thread with Skye!! She called it ‘Pretty Flower in the Police Force: Sakura’s Career Day Fiasco’ and it is hands down the best thing I’ve ever written.

The smut. Not even going to lie.

“Huh?”

Eiji looked up from the book he was reading, raising his brows a little as he saw Ash head for the door of their apartment. He had slung on his winter coat and was currently adjusting the collar. 

“I said I’m meeting with Alex,” Ash repeated. “I told you about it.”

Of course, Eiji remembered. He didn’t know what the meeting would be about, but it was related to the other gangs somehow. Kong would be present too, and it left Eiji wondering if something bad was about to happen.

“Ah, is it that late already?” he replied lamely. He had lost track of time, still struggling to read as quickly as he would like. Though his English had improved since coming to America, he was nowhere near as proficient as Ash, who had grown up with the language. 

Eiji put aside his book. He leaned back against the couch and watched Ash as he reached for his gloves. They had been a gift of Eiji’s, for Christmas. 

Ash’s chuckle was light, but Eiji thought it sounded off. It was too clean, too natural-sounding. As always, Eiji could tell the lie simply by noticing the overly calm quality of Ash’s voice. Now, Eiji knew for certain that Ash was about to throw himself head-first into danger again.

“Don’t stay up all night reading. No need waiting up.”

“Okay,” Eiji smiled. “Be careful.”

     The child in front of her, reminded Kushina of her own young self. One that desired desperately to leave Konoha and try to rebuilt her real home. That thought saddened the older woman, who lowered to see the girl in the eyes. Was incredibly beautiful, reminded her of her father’s personality, fierce and fearless facade, but the mother was seeing there was something else being hidden.

     ❝ I know. I know you don’t like here and I know you want to leave. But I won’t let you go, I don’t want to. ❞

     Touching the other’s shoulder, in a sign of comfort, a question came from the older one, in an attempt to show there was nothing the other could fear in there. ❝ You are an Uzumaki, aren’t you? ❞ The strong chakra was undeniable, she could not belong to any other clan. ❝ My name is Uzumaki Kushina. I know it’s hard for you to understand why you are here, but I don’t want you out there, people might try to harm you, even more. ❞

     The thought of such a young child, the same age as her own wandering without a home to come back and be welcomed into. It was unacceptable. Despite the Great Ninja War ending, people still wanted to fight and use children as weapons and source of resources. This Kushina would not allow. Had received the data about a young girl being used due to her chakra, how cruel they could be, this the red-haired woman would never understand.

          he’s not sure, exactly, what his eyebrow is doing. it feels like it’s twitching, like his face is trying to recreate an expression he’s seen on the captain but never quite understood. incredulity, bemusement, something like a reptilian smile growing at the corners of his mouth. 

          they’re sitting shoulder to shoulder in a crowded bar, drinks in their hands, gazing out over their fellow patrons. they have been here for what feels like hours, for what feels like minutes, the acrid tang of smoke in their noses and the low buzz of a shinobi bar crackling under their skin. 

          sai is here looking for trouble, and he’s not sure why karin is here until a man walks in and she bristles, every inch of her from the roots of her blood red hair to the tips of her carefully maintained toenails vibrates with -- with something. her rage and her excitement and her joy are always so closely tangled that sai cannot parse where one ends and one begins, if they do at all. he looks like a bitch, tumbles from her carefully painted lips, her eyes trained on the unsuspecting man like a predator. he turns his gaze to the target, and nearly laughs aloud. 

     Lips would curve into a grin upon noticing a certain red in sight -- a mere twitch of his whiskers indicating the demeanor she effortlessly seemed to carry herself with. A crimson set of hair, beaming red eyes coming to display the fire burning within--hm, a fitting appearance given her nature. He couldn’t help but to cock his head slightly at this marvelous, new oddity.
