On Thanksgiving Day, Cherashore Playground in North Philadelphia held a Thanksgiving dinner for about 200 people who live in the local community. For the second year, Cherashore held this holiday celebration, at which people are able to enjoy a nice meal and spend Thanksgiving in a family atmosphere. A huge thanks goes out to to Steve, Rahim, and all of the volunteers who helped to provide residents in the community around Cherashore Playground with a great Thanksgiving dinner!

On February 23, Cherashore Playground proudly welcomed back Super Bowl champion Zaire “Bam” Anderson to retire his youth football jersey.

Zaire played football at Cherashore for the City Youth Association Gators from ages 12 to 14. He then went on to play at Frankford High School, followed by Riverside City College in California, and the University of Nebraska, where he earned a degree in youth and family sciences in 2014. His college career ultimately led him to sign as an inside linebacker with the Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos on May 5, 2015. In his rookie year, he played on the team’s practice squad.

The jersey retirement event was fun for all involved. Fifty current players, coaches from both past and present, and three former players gathered at the playground to celebrate Zaire’s accomplishments. His former coach Marc Bredell, who is now the athletic director for the Gators, presented Zaire with his jersey, number 32. The Gators provided pizza and soda for the kids that attended. After the ceremony, Zaire stuck around to sign autographs and share stories about his Super Bowl experience.
