Magic Chemistry.. by Elena Shumilova on 500px
Chemistry magic: Vinegar and Baking Soda
You guys knew this was coming, right? This is chemistry magic with everyone’s favorite grade school science fair volcano demo, vinegar and baking soda!
If you have no clue what I’m on about with the term “chemistry magic,” here’s my idea post. Basically, the concept is using the energy created by a chemical reaction to power a spell -- preferably a relatively rapid one that changes the state of the ingredients dramatically. This might be helpful as an alternative source of energy for spoonie witches, witches who struggle with visualization or focus, or empaths who tend to drain of energy easily.
The main use I’ve imagined for the vinegar/baking soda reaction is as a booster and accelerator to a spell. This is for a spell you want to hit hard, and hit as soon as possible.
This could also be used for either positive or baneful magic, depending on the intent and the other ingredients of the spell.
Use it in a small cup or shot glass with intent and ingredients that correspond to creativity, to help your “cup runeth over” with new ideas.
Use it in a curse jar to cause conflict and explosive interactions for someone who needs to learn the error of their ways.
Or just skip the magic and do it for funsies. ;)
Chemistry magic: curdling milk
Chemistry magic, Part 1! If you have no clue what I’m on about, here’s my idea post. Basically, the concept is using the energy created by a chemical reaction to power a spell. This might be helpful for spoonie witches, witches who struggle with visualization or focus, or empaths who tend to drain of energy easily.
Of course, lots of magic includes some component of chemistry, but here we’re specifically going for things that do so relatively quickly compared to, say, waiting for nails to rust for War Water. We’re also going for things that cause significant change to the base ingrediants.
So I’ve decided I’m going to basically do this by taking a given reaction, and then giving a bunch of ways it could be used for spell work. The first one here is totally appetizing, right?
So curdling milk is really easy. You basically just warm the milk, add some kid of acid to it (vinegar, lemon juice, etc), and let it go. You can hear little popping and fizzing noises as it starts to curdle, which is neat.
I can imagine a TON of ways you could use this in spells.
Given its less than wonderful smell and appearance, curses come immediately to mind, but so do some more positive works.
This would be a great reaction to use for any sort of banishing or separating work, especially if you used it with something like Four Thieves Vinegar.
Add taglocks for the person you wish to banish from your life, and as it separates, they separate from you.
If you want to help someone get out of an unhealthy relationship through magical means (though never forget the mundane ways as well), you could put in taglocks for both of them to separate them.
For vengeance curses against those who caused you injustice, you can use it to make their life “spoil” and for others around them to see their true nature. The longer you let this sit, the grosser it gets, and the more plainly others will see how they really are.
But hey, you could use it for positive stuff too.
Use lemon juice as the curdling agent, and make your own cottage cheese or ricotta for kitchen witchcraft (I’m not much of a cook, so I don’t know exactly how to do this right, but I’m sure a quick Google can help).
The milk changing forms could be used in spells for self-transformation, with the curdling powering the spell and the consumption of it setting it to work.
Prepare and eat it with your family in times of stress to help you all stick together through the rough times.
If you give this a try, let me know how it worked for you!
WooHoo!!!!! Chemistry experiment!!! Fire!!! xD
