// it’s always been so weird to me that the fandom as a whole tends to ignore or disregard bruce’s mental illness tbh
It’s so painfully obvious and absolutely textbook. And I think I remember reading someone else’s meta in which they made an Excellent point, pointing out that much of the fandom seems to think that the loss of his parents is the only trauma Bruce ever suffered, that he filled up his Trauma Quota that day and that none of the other terrible things that have happened to him are allowed to faze him. See: Losing one of his best friends, losing his son, Bab’s paralysis, and on and on and on. Those are absolutely traumatic events, and not only that, but harsh mirrors of his original trauma.
There is a reason that Bruce is such a control freak, a reason he fears not having absolute dominion and understanding at all times: because, in his experience, that’s when good people die, and every time it happens it just cements his neuroses. And yet, because he’s a male power fantasy to so many, he’s not allowed the “weakness” of being mentally ill, when in fact it makes him so much more complex, dimensional, and relatable as a character.
