The seemingly only similarity between Weiss and Blake's apartments was that they were both clean. Though even how they kept their living spaces was different. Weiss had hired a maid, while Blake shivered at the idea of allowing a stranger into her home (one of her few safe spaces) when she wasnât there. Blake knew Weiss didnât enjoy people invading her privacy either, but but she had to keep reminding herself that Weiss was an heiress, a Schnee. Sheâd grown up in the lap of luxury and was probably completely comfortable with the idea of hired help and having them in her living space. The Belladonnaâs had security guards regularly milling about their house - seeing as how Ghira was chieftain - but no maids that Blake was aware of; which had meant a lot of assigned chores growing up.
Aesthetically was, of course, where their two residences contrasted the most. Weissâ apartment spacey and elegant and very white. Ruby also complained that it was occasionally too cold, but the older girl couldnât recall a time where sheâd had a problem with the temperature. When Blake visited everything looked pristine and perfect. All things expected of someone not only of her social class, but of her planet as well. Blakeâs apartment on the other hand was... well it was dark. She kept her curtains closed at all times and instead of a ceiling light, Blake had opted to instead use table/floor lamps and candles (but those were mostly just for the scent they burned off). The golden light they gave off was far more pleasing than that off any other source available to her. And then there was her furniture. Almost all of it was bought secondhand, and instead of going for a perfectly matching âlookâ all Blake cared about was whether they were 1) dark in color, and 2) incredibly comfortable.Â
Her sofa looked used, but she didnât mind. It was where she and Ruby watched cheesy romance films every weekend, where she laid out in the evenings with a good book, and it was where she often woke up instead of her bed. Sometimes she came home after practice and simply collapsed on the couch, not wanting to put in the effort to walk any further, but more often than not it was because sheâd stayed up until her eyes were bloodshot watching the news. It was surprisingly good quality, considering the station was all the way from Remnant. News stations were really the only form of television she watched; which to some people was good because it meant she was always informed of what was going on back home, but those who knew her best knew that more than anything it just kept her on edge all the time.
Today, Weissâ maid (who Blake had stopped commenting on a while ago) was at her apartment cleaning, so theyâd chosen to hang out at the darker haired girlâs place instead. It was probably half the size of the heiressâ abode, but Blake wasnât embarrassed of it because of that. Not being filthy rich was nothing to be ashamed of. The first few times Weiss had been invited over sheâd looked almost uncomfortable, clearly not used to Blakeâs type of âstyleâ, but by now the only thing she was put-off by (to Blakeâs knowledge) was if her teammate had left dirty dishes out.
Fortunately sheâd remembered to clean up the small collection of mugs piling up on the coffee table from throughout the week earlier that morning. What she had forgotten before leaving her apartment that morning though, was to turn off the television. When she and Weiss walked it in was still on, but Blake quickly became too busy making them both tea to pay attention to whatever the newscasters were discussing. She pulled two cups out of a cabinet, "Iâm all out of coffee grounds, is tea okay with you?â Blake knew Weiss preferred coffee to tea, but she didnât have the bitter drink often enough to make restocking her supply of it a priority.Â

the great reveal ; weiss, blake
Blake had been suspicious that Ruby was crushing on Weiss for about as long as sheâd known them both. The younger woman didnât exactly make it all that hard to notice, Blake had just decided not to comment on it. And as far as Blake was aware, Weiss never showed any real interest in Ruby - at least, not in the same way Ruby was obviously interested in the heiress. For a while it seemed like the only emotion the youngest member of their team could provoke out of Weiss was annoyance.
It didnât take too long for the melodrama to fade out into just Weiss nagging Ruby to study and eat healthy, but at some point last autumn (November, maybe?) something had...changed. The little glances Blake so often caught Ruby directing at their teammate were getting far more frequent, and occasionally even reciprocated. Little touches that lingered longer than necessary. A subtle fondness in Rubyâs voice and Weissâ eyes when they were talking about each other. Suddenly it didnât seem like her team captainâs not-so-secret crush was all that one-sided. Blake didnât want to make assumptions, so she decided wait out any more developments.
For as long as Blake had known her, Weiss Schnee had not been a sweatshirt wearing type of woman. So when she first saw a red sweatshirt folded up in Weissâ apartment, she was more than just a little suspicious. Her suspicions were heightened when she began spotting her friend in more sweatshirts that she knew belonged to Ruby. Everyone on the team made more than enough money to buy their own clothes, so if Weiss was stealing their captainâs sweatshirts it had to be purely out of want.
Ruby herself had made verbal slip-ups on more than one occasion, but Blake hadnât bothered to comment on them. If Ruby didnât want to tell Blake what was going on or how she was feeling, the older woman wouldnât press her for the truth. She had plenty of her own secrets after all.
But it was the vase of âfriend rosesâ Ruby had brought over to Blakeâs apartment for Weiss that had finally pushed her suspicions and curious mind over the edge. Ruby was more likely to spill whatever was going on, but if they were in fact dating and keeping it a secret, she guessed it was because Weiss wasnât ready to tell anyone. Blake didnât want to make Ruby choose between telling the truth and breaking a promise, so she decided to ask Weiss about it instead. It was also more convenient that way since Weiss was still staying at her apartment.
"So,â Blake spoke as she sat walked over to the table, carrying glasses of water for herself and Weiss. Sheâd made quinoa for dinner that night - a favorite of Weissâ - in the hopes it would put her friend in a good mood and more receptive to questions. âAny updates on when your new security equipment will be arriving?â
