Sonnet for a girl no. 3
There was a time when friends would come and go, And like the seasons make sure to return. But as the rings around the tree bark grow, To choose our truest friends we must all learn. Flung into life as windswept as grey leaves, Wrapped in cloth rags and stitched identity. We age outside the walls like guilty thieves, Desperate for breadcrumbs of company. We improvise like ghosts inside a song, But often can't escape the songs within. Lucky you must count yourself all along, To hear the true friend's voice above the din. Â Â Â This choice, this raindrop day, this lifelong storm: Â Â Â With whom you spend your days your life will form.
