"Comin' and Goin'" ~ Dividing the city – literally – in half (north and south), two BNSF unit grain trains, one empty heading east (units), the other loaded (behind), meet in downtown Spokane on the 1915 built Washington Street elevated grade viaduct which at one time – not so long ago – still had the illuminated Northern Pacific Monad at the apex of its sweeping arch. It’s the sight of the mid-nightly into the small-hours-of-the-morning do-si-do of Amtrak’s opposing Empire Builders: trains #7 and #27 combining, and #8, and #28 separating. The Amtrak Station is just outside the frame to the right. Further in the background is Riverfront park which at one time was the site of Great Northern’s downtown railyards and passenger station, the Empire Builder’s original station stop in Spokane. All but the clock tower of the former passenger station and railyards remains. In the early 70’s the land was reclamated for Spokane’s World's Fair Expo ’74. Likewise elevated I-90, in the foreground, runs parallel to the BNSF main through town, and with plenty of exits it’s conducive to chasin’ and getting set up for a shot in plenty of time: usually. 😉😉😉 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (11Oct16 ©) #bnsf #grain #easternwashington #fr8porn #khombu #spokane #manfrotto #pacificnorthwest #pnw_rrshots #railfan #railfannation #railfanning #railroadphotography #railways #railways_of_our_world #sonya6000 #sonyalpha #sonyalphaclub #sonyimages #sonyphotogallery #spokane #trackside #trainphotography #trains_worldwide #pnw_rrshots #export #chasingtrains #adobe #train_nerds #daily_crossing (at Spokane, Washington)
