So, in typical tourist fashion, do the most risky activity you can find that doesn't need to be done and doesn't make sense. Cross the icy river when you don't need to and when your party of 5 is mostly klutzes and highly likely to end up in the icy drink. Better still when it is a 20 minute up hill walk to the car in 0 degree temps. Amazingly we all made it across fairly dry, except for one or two feet. Was worth crossing.
