Whatâs New Scooby Doo - Character Analysis. Series 2, Episode 1.
Whatâs this? The âWhatâs New Scooby Dooâ Episode analysis no one asked for? Thatâs right! Iâll be analysing the gangâs interactions with each other to see just how close they are.
Obviously theyâll be spoilers for the episode, so just beware.Â
First episode Iâm doing - Series 2, âBig Appetite In Little Tokyoâ.Â
First of all the episode starts with Velma getting an award, with the gang cheering her on. Her invention is called âDogbotâ.So the gang gets to go to Tokyo to watch Velma presenting her creation.
When theyâre getting a tour of Tokyo Shaggy has the misfortune to fall asleep. Itâs Fred who tells the guide âJet Lag. Iâm afraid Shaggy doesnât travel well.â showing that the gang has travelled abroad enough together to become acquainted with one another's habits.
Now the spook of the episode. An old mystic tries to scare the doctor theyâve gone to visit, but Velma manages to divert the spell. Unfortunately it hits Shaggy instead. The crux of the spell is that the person it hits will become a giant monster every night and destroy Tokyo.
Funnily enough Shaggy doesnât want to destroy Tokyo and so chains himself to his bed. [With an ankle lock] He declares heâs not going to fall asleep, but is so jet-lagged he immediately goes back on his word. Itâs Scooby who literally tucks him in.
Next morning the rest of the gang - knowing Shaggy and Scooby were jetlagged - brought them breakfast in bed. Just then a lieutenant turns up to try and arrest Shaggy for destroying Tokyo. The gang respond by legging it.
They end up checking into a hotel. During the night however the gang see the 30-foot Shaggy for themselves and try and chase him.Â
They find him - in his normal form - and wake him up to explain what happened. Shaggy declares itâs time to turn him in. The rest of the gang immediately shoots this down and Scooby even gives him a hug.
On the way to meet the only person who can get them out of this mess, Shaggy and Scooby inevitably end up nearly being arrested by the lieutenant. Shaggy asked Velmaâs invention to turn into something that can âget us out of hereâ. While Dogbot does manage to turn into a chariot, thereâs only one seat, so Scooby picks Shaggy up and puts him into said seat.
Well - trying not to spoil here - but inevitably they discover that Shaggy is NOT the monster, someone is trying to frame him. While doing this they come up against the 30-foot Shaggy and end up on the run from him.
Thereâs a scene when Shaggy decided - in his wisdom - to raid the refrigerator [heâs been not sleeping well due to fear, so Iâm assuming this might be why.] Scooby notices this - grabs Velmaâs invention, runs back to where Shaggy is, grabs him, carries him and legs it. Bearing in mind this means Scooby comes within an inch of being flattened himself.Â
Of course they find out who did it. Velma gives Dogbot away and says that she prefers Scooby when asked if sheâll miss Dogbot. At the end the gang share a hug.

Whatâs New Scooby Doo, Series 2, Episode 2 Character Analysis
The episode takes place in Egypt. The gang are invited by Melbourne - an explorer - to take part in a dig. Of course it turns out the pyramid is being haunted by a mummy.Â
When said mummy causes a sandstorm to start the gang all start calling out for each other - with Daphne specifically calling out for Fred. He replies, but they canât find each other due to said sand.
After that they and Melbourne find the nearby city, which is experiencing a terrible draught. The begger they find kindly gives them some water. He pours it into Shaggyâs hands and Shaggy immediately gives it to Scooby.Â
Following the beggars advice, they head to another town to get some food as well as water. They stumble across a restaurant ran by a Madame Chantelle. Itâs very popular and the gang need to get in quickly, so Velma and Daphne become belly dancers, meanwhile the lads disguise themselves in traditional attire.Â
They inevitably run into the mummyâs minions, who go after Daphne and Velma. Scooby comes out in tradition belly-dancing attire and does a dance, enabling Daphne and Velma to get away. After they get away Fred immediately checks the girls are ok.Â
Returning to the pyramid the gang split up. When returned Shaggy and Scooby find that Fred, Daphne and Velma have been turned into zombies [The mummyâs helpers]. Initially glad to see them, Shaggy and Scooby soon realise whatâs happened with Shaggy saying this:
ââWhatâre you doing? Itâs us! Shaggy and Scooby and youâre - ulp - hideous, sinister zombies - but thatâs ok, friends donât judge!â
Later on - after a nice chase montage - Shaggy has this to add. âWell Scoob, looks like weâre being hunted down by our best friends in the whole world. Looks like we need to do something except the old standbyâs - quivering and whimpering.â
He then tricks the lock to get out of the room theyâre in [like Daphne had done earlier.] and figures out a gizmo they come across like Velma wouldâve.
They then become cornered by Fred, Daphne and Velma and - giving up - begin to yell for help. This breaks the spell the other three were under and they immediately help Shaggy and Scooby out of the predicament theyâre in.
After that they solve the mystery - and itâs Shaggy and Scooby who explain things as theyâre the ones who solved it. Afterwards - with the water returned to the city - the gang and others have a pool party and Fred says. âI sure wish we could think of a way to thank Scooby and Shaggy.â
Shaggy - whoâs happily eating while floating on the water - says. âLike, if you could Fred, this would be it.â
