Owner of Sri Pinang Angie Kaw is particularly fond of her Spicy Char Bee Hoon, ”chin hot chiak,” she proclaims as you ponder the menu. There's a kick in the bee hoon (rice vermicelli) - from hints of spices and definitely chilli. You can chose to make it vegetarian or have chicken/prawn/fish cakes/lup cheong. Uncle’s parents have raised him up to not eat meat on Fridays for religious reasons. So why break a habit of a lifetime, especially with this plate of vegetarian gorgeousness, the Char Bee Hoon, specially cooked by Aunty KK of KK Malaysia fame. She has a skill that’s impossible to replicate: the bee hoon was stirfried to perfection, the strands not sticking to each other and being imparted with wok hei. If she were to cook this for herself she would go Buddhist and not use black vegetables like garlic & onion, no egg either. But she’s more relaxed with me re ingredients. Uncle even found vegan mock barbecue meat in this CBH. Uncle is truly blessed.
