I was thinking again about how Movie Aragorn is so much hotter when heâs dirty and unkempt (as one does), and I just had a very belated realization. At his coronation, Aragorn is sporting a much fuller beard than he has at any point before that. This:
vs. this:
Since the coronation proves that he can/will grow a full beard if he doesnât shave, does his appearance in the rest of the trilogy imply that he was shaving then? Did this man lug a razor or beard trimmer around for hundreds of miles of hard core trekking through snow and mines and wilderness, on boats and horseback, and into battle? Was he getting up early every morning so that he could do a quick touch up before fighting a NazgĂ»l or summoning the king of the dead? I think the answer has to be yes, right? Surely someone else has considered this and has an answer already.

Basic dni criteria.
He had a crush on MC in elementary school, but then was really shy. He mostly grew out of his shyness, though, a bit later in life.
He loves reading crime and mystery novels. They challenge is mind, which is why he's dreamed to be a crime reporter for so long.
He wanted a dog his whole life but unfortunately never had the opportunity to get one. His parents didn't let him and his landlord doesn't let him either.
He loves upbeat music, but when he's calm he listens to soft rock. He listens to pretty much everything, though.
He wants to know how to play piano, but unfortunately never got the chance. (His apartment's too small and there was never enough room at home, either.)
Rules: Make a poll with five of your all time favorite characters and then tag five people to do the same. See which character is everyoneâs favorite! (Sorry, non-Yanks, I had to drop the U from your favourite! I felt like a poser to keep it!)
Thanks for the tag @camille-lachenille ! As I have a particular affinity for smaller, lesser known characters, Iâm hesitant to put my actual faves in a poll for fear that no one will vote for them. So here are 5 well established LOTR characters instead, all of whom I deeply love even if they arenât at the tippy top of my personal rankings:
Ok, so I wussed out on putting my actual LOTR canonical faves in my favorite character poll for fear that no one will vote for people who arenât especially significant presences in the fandom, but @celeluwhenfics suggested that I do it anyway and I am actually curious so:

Why did they not... Do something about it? Was he that powerful? Or were they so bound to their allegiance to the king that they could not do much?
I'm feeling a little embarrassed because I can't find a satisfying answer to this and it's turning out to be a problem in my fic. Any ideas, quotes or headcanon to help me get unstuck?
My copy of UT has not arrived yet... Is part of the answer in there?
That being saidâŠhere are a few canonical things (if we count UT as canonical, which I do for the Rohan chapters) that might help as you think about how you want to fill in that blank space:
So maybe thinking about it in that context will help to spur some ideas for how you personally want to square this circle? Though obviously canon compliance isnât always the most important consideration, and if any of this messes up other story elements you have in place then it shouldnât constrain you! I only offer it as food for thought and hope itâs helpful in some way! đ
He writes his letter to Boromir (which, of course, Boromir will never receive because heâs about to die at Parth Galen) and has drawn up a list of everyone whose support heâs going to seek for his attempt to take temporary control of the throne when word arrives that a full-on invasion is about to happen at the Fords and he is needed there for reinforcement. He leaves his fiancee to send the letter to Boromir and to start working on lining up support while he goes to deal with the emergency at the Fords, but heâs tragically killed, which obviously derails the plan. At which point, we hook back into the main narrative where Ăomer is kind of flailing on his ownâŠ
This is an encouragement to share any headcanon you might have related to Elfhelm, more specifically about his eyebrows. đ„ž
Ah, Elfhelm, my beloved. Currently getting spanked in the favorite character poll but deserving of so much more! â„ïž Here are my random Elfhelm thoughts:
âElfhelm was a social ANIMAL. There was nothing he loved more than a party, and he became the default center of attention as soon as he arrived. Heâd lead singing, buy rounds, win an impromptu arm wrestling contest, dance with all the old ladies and little girls, and tell bawdy jokes that people laughed at even as they acted shocked.
âHe was naturally gifted with people. He could talk to ANYONE and make them all feel like the most important person in the room. He had a fantastic memory and always remembered to ask after that horse of yours that was sick last month or to congratulate your son on finishing that apprenticeship you told him about in the spring.
âHe LIVED for harmless gossip. He had a million sources (he wasnât above hanging out in the line for the womenâs privy at the mead hall because thatâs where the best scoops were shared), and people just felt drawn to confide in him about all kinds of things. But he had very keen judgment and never shared anything that would hurt anyone else.
âHe did, indeed, have classic Grandpa Eyebrows! His wife tried to keep them trimmed, but he really couldnât be bothered and joked that they helped keep the sun out of his eyes.
