Chapter 02 (Draft 01)

RICK:    I wanna make you feel good, Teddy.                   [beat]          We can’t learn each other if we don’t try. THEA:    I know. Not right now. RICK:    I meant in general. THEA:    Doesn’t Mama have some modern-Catholic          ideas about being chaste before marriage? RICK:    [sighing] We’re not engaged yet. THEA:    She brings up something about          weddings every time I visit. RICK:    That’s not what we were talking about.

Character Introductions: Shades of Red 

FRANCESCA “CHESSIE” SLATE    is a 22 year old junior lifestyle writer in the social media department of Rosen Media. She lives with her best friend GWENDOLYN GALLATY who is 24 and a senior culture and fashion writer in the same department. Chessie is also on the autism spectrum, which much of her social media work is about. Her clothing style and day to day experiences are geared toward what makes her most comfortable has attracted a considerable following. Her sister being Deaf meant that she learned sign language growing up, which ultimately helps her during non-verbal episodes. Chessie has difficulty keeping on weight due to forgetfulness about eating, hyperfocus on her specialized interests, and because she walks virtually everywhere she goes, thus she is quite skinny. She also self-medicates with cannabis products which makes her general functioning easier, and does yoga/stretching daily. She came out as bi when she was fourteen, but changed her mind and came out again when she was twenty as a lesbian. Dating is a tricky subject for her because of a dramatic fallout with one of her exes who does similar work at a different media company. 

GEMMA ROSEN  is the 29 year old CEO of the media division of the ROSEN Family Syndicate. She has dedicated her work to include women and people of colour, as well as supporting the LGBT community of which she is apart. She came out as bisexual publically when she was 24, though remains deeply private about all aspects of her life that do not have to do with her work. Gemma dresses in such a way that does not show much skin at all, despite usually being quite form fitting. She is very fit, muscular and lean, and has in the past claimed that exercise saved her life. Her childhood and most of her teen years included considerable abuse at the hands of her step father, who also abused her step and half siblings. She also experimented with BDSM, which she was introduced to at the age of 17 and was engaged in a relationship for the next six years. Her family name is known for its considerable social activism, and putting its money back into the local community in big ways. Gemma prides her role in media by promoting responsible journalism and transparency, as well as advocating for and utilizing green energy in the buildings she owns.
