Son of Prince Baelon and Princess Alyssa Targaryen, as well as the younger brother to King Viserys I. Daemon was known as a hot-headed, ambitious and passionate man. A true Targaryen; he took pride in his House and what it represented.Β
Β In his youth he called himself βPrince of the Cityβ as he dwelled in Flea Bottom habitually, but the citizenβs titled himΒ Lord Flea Bottom instead. He became associated with a prostitute called Mysaria, who had a lot of ambition as well.Β
Β Β However, he was known throughout the realm asΒ βThe Rogue Princeβ due to his inability to take orders and do as told.Β
Β Early on in Daemonβs life, he claimed the shunned dragon Caraxes, whose former rider was Aemon Targaryen, Daemonβs uncle.Β When he was knighted at sixteen, he was given the ancestoral sword Dark Sister, by his grandfather King Jaehaerys I.Β
Β His first marriage was to Rhea Royce, the Lady of Runestone, who had ruled House Royce. They had no children together, nor consummated their marriage and it was said that Daemon thought...ill of his first wife.Β
Β Daemonβs second marriage was to Lady Laena Velaryon, with whom he had two children; Baela and Rhaena Targaryen. They resided in Pentos for some time, until Laena went into labor and ultimately died. Choosing to go out as a true dragonrider, she commanded her dragon, the largest and oldest in all of Westeros to kill her by fire.Β
Β During Laenaβs funeral, her dragon, Vhagar, was claimed by Aemond Targaryen. That same night, Daemon and Rhaenyraβs children fought with Aemond because of this, and he lost an eye.Β
Β Daemonβs third marriage was to his niece, Rhaenyra Targaryen, heir to the Iron Throne. Together they had two sons; Aegon III, Viserys II and a stillborn daughter named Visenya.Β
Β He backed Rhaenyraβs claim to the throne against her half-brother Aegon II.Β
Rhaena came from the great House Velaryon, one of the only remaining families to carry the blood of Old Valyria. She was named after her grandmother, Rhaenys and her ancestor Rhaena Targaryen, she was the younger twin sister to Baela Targaryen.Β Later in her life, she would be known as Rhaena of Pentos and Rhaena Corbray, she was the more amicable twin.Β Rhaena and her sister were the only offspring of Daemon Targaryen and Lady Laena Velaryon, who had died in childbirth.Β
Rhaena was a dragonrider, like her sister and parents, and grandmother. Her mount was the pale pink dragon, Morning. Rhaena had trouble with her egg given at birth, however, Morning was her second chance. The baby dragon was often perched on Rhaenaβs shoulder, accompanying her everywhere.Β
In personality, Rhaena was the gentler twin. Softer; both in demeanour and apperance. She was more amenable than Baela, but still had a mind of her own and a will as strong as her grandmotherβs.Β
When they were separated, the twinβs personalities became even more distinguished. Where Baela was head-strong and stubborn, Rhaena was peaceful and delicate. Each had been promised to their cousins; Baela to Jace and Rhaena to Luke.Β
Their personalities were reflected in their dragons as well. Morning; as beautiful as the sunrise, and Moondancer as fierce as her rider. Both she-dragons were young during the Dance of the Dragons but they were growing quickly.Β
Not born to be King, but given the throne anyway, Viserys achieved this because he was a male. His cousin, Rhaenys Targaryen, known asΒ βThe Queen Who Never Was,β had been passed over twice for being the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms because she was a woman.Β
Β Viserys was never one for conflict and was often seen as a people-pleaser. This proved to be quite troublesome as it caused even more problems to arise. Namely, the Dance of the Dragons, which ultimately became the downfall of House Targaryen. Through his desire for peace, he kindled the flames of a civil war.Β
Β His first marriage was to Aemma Aryn, the daughter of Lord Rodrik Arryn and Princess Daella Targaryen. Together, theyΒ had a daughter, Rhaenyra Targaryen. Tried they did, but another child was never lived.Β
Β Viserysβ younger brother, Daemon, was then considered his heir, but with his hot-temper and unwillingness to cooperate, he was deemed unfit for the position of King. Thereby, Viserys gave the title of heir to Rhaenyra. This caused great disruption among those in power, but ultimately the Houses swore fealty to the young Targaryen woman.
Β During his second marriage to Alicent Hightower, daughter of the Hand of the King, he had four children: Aegon II, Helaena, Aemond and Daeron. Through this marriage a line was drawn in the sand; those that wanted Rhaenyra on the throne, and those that wanted Aegon II on the throne. The argument was that Aegon was his firstborn son and the title would go to him.Β Alicentβs father pushed hard for the decision of Aegon II, but he was never Viserysβ choice.Β
Β It is said that Viserysβ mount was Balerion, when in actual fact, he only rode the dragon once. It could be said that they werenβt a bonded pair; a true dragon and dragonrider.Β
Rather, Balerion allowed Viserys to ride him, but no connection was made. Even after Balerionβs death, Viserys did not bond with any other dragon.Β
Β Named after her paternal grandfather, Prince Baelon Targaryen, Baela was ever her grandmotherβs granddaughter. A true Targaryen, she was courageous, tenacious and steadfast. Baela and her sister, Rhaena, were the only offspring of Daemon TargaryenΒ βthe Rogue Princeβ and Lady Laena Velaryon.Β A fearsome and stubborn woman, she was the older twin sister to Rhaena Targaryen, who she loved dearly.Β
Reigning from Houses Targaryen and Velaryon, Baela spent many years as her grandmotherβs ward while her grandfather recovered from serious wounds. Willful and determined, when Baela set her mind to something, there was nothing that could stand in her way. Her personality angered many men but inspired many women. There were reports that during her younger years, she would often be chastised for wrestling squires in the castle yards.Β
During the Dance of the Dragons, Baela refused to leave her betrothed side, Prince Jacaerys, and desired to join the fight, even though her dragon, Moondancer, was not yet big enough to ride.Β
