I will probably get flamed for saying this but —
In regards to Leopold (Framework - "The Doctor") people always make him out to seem like this 'mad scientist,' or 'independent,' version of Fitz who wants nothing more than pain from every person he comes across. And that's just flat out wrong, if anything he's more dependent than Fitz was - his whole life within the framework revolved around his father and Ophelia, he was most likely abused, groomed, and manipulated from a young age (false memories) to comply and obey to orders given to him by those he needs to listen to (ex. Ophelia, Alistair, etc) Whenever he questioned their motives - he was shot down and shown to be 'stupid,' for even asking those questions in the first place. Leopold went to Ophelia or his father (mostly Ophelia) for orders, never to make a decision for himself.
Although, one of the only decisions he did make was to divert paths and disrupt an order given to him when his father was killed, despite Ophelia saying otherwise. Now that can be explained from him acting out emotionally, his father, who he loved very much - blinded from years of normalised abuse - was dead. And that obviously made a part of Leopold break. He grew a resentment towards Jemma because of such, to him it just seemed like his father who had done no harm (even though he had) was murdered for no reason by a woman he doesn't even know.
Most of the time - Leopold acted out in ways a victim of abuse who had no way to heal (considering the fact Ophelia had sexually assaulted him as well) would have. He was never some more 'intelligent' version of Fitz who could see every wrong and right in a millisecond, if anything he never knew what was wrong or right. And I've noticed in the Agents of shield fandom - people tend to get confused or upset why obvious characters who were victims of grooming/abuse (Grant Ward for example) acted out in certain ways. It really doesn't take much to see why they did what they did.
