jason is my fav but idk why trying to write him is so difficult for me omg. i feel generally i have a strong interpretation of the characters i like based both from canon material and extrapolating the little bits canon might not fill but jason. he escapes me. maybe it's because he's so much more straightforward and yet closed off than what i'm used to? his desire is so clear and yet so muddled for me. like it does not help that comics are messy mediums and the characterization is all over the place and varies depending on which author is at the helm, but i've already decided to just take the core of his character i like and add my own interpretation on top of it.
but jason! he eludes me despite the time i spend picking him apart. i feel like i'm always circling around his relationship with desire too. like he is someone who painfully needs love but believe he doesn't deserve it or can even have it. maybe he's even tricked himself he'll be better off without it and ignores the ache in his chest. he would be so devoted if he fell in love, but he would never let himself get to the point of such intense vulnerability in the first place. it's like trying to coax a stray dog with a bite history towards me. even his speech pattern escapes me...
it's actually funny to me that dick and tim are characters i feel like i can grasp immediately. dick is the golden child, the eldest brother who feels like he has to keep the world from falling apart and can never quite trust someone else to bear the weight. he's flashy and bright and so loved, but he keeps his cards close to his chest. there's a level of slyness he operates under by virtue of being in this game the longest and having so much riding on him. also. his joint savior and martyr complex is a dangerous combination. i think it's honestly daunting to be with dick in any capacity lol.
tim is the youngest. he's the one who asked to go into this, and there's a certain level of insecurity that comes with not having been chosen and having the legacy of his predecessors to live up to. he's meticulous, and obsessive when it comes to his interests, to the point it makes him callous to other people when he's focusing too deeply. he's the most pragmatic, who knows this role isn't forever, but he fiercely loves the ideal of batman and robin the most. there's a sort of desperation that drives him, and he's very capable when he's not emotionally invested in something. but as soon as those emotions come in? he's falling apart bc he Care Too Much.
