Was thinking that I can be a little too literal about color and maybe it’d work better to try for more emotional response. So I tweaked the base color on this figure from really desaturated light yellow to a really desaturated light blue, using warm whitish light as a spot color, and I’m pretty happy with how that worked.
(Edit. After going through all that I felt like the basic drawing was off, so I went back and tweaked the picture a little, which is the below pic. I think that does look a little better.)
