Boku no Hero Academia - Chapter 191 & 192
It’s been a while since I last wrote a recap about what happened in the latest bnha chapters but I didn’t want to let those last chapters slip so I say we start right with chapter 192 to close the Endeavour arc for now!
So as most of you know I did a recap from the latest chapters mostly focusing on Endeavour and his family dynamics, his personal development and the relationships between him and his family members so I am not going in too much detail regarding the rest of the chapter.
Chapter 191 is a about a confrontation between Endeavour, Hawkes and Dabi and we find out that not only Dabi seems to have a personal interest in Endeavour and seems to know him a bit better then he lets on, but we also find out that Hawkes works as a double agent who’s working as an informant not only for Dabi but also for a higher organization.
There are a lot of rumors and conspiracy theories about Dabi being a Todoroki and I fully support these because there are a lot of hints that he’s the long lost Todoroki brother and one thing that threw me off in chapter 191 is the last few panels of this chapter.
Dabi seems particularly shaken by Endeavour’s statement about him never thinking about all those families he hurts with his attacks and those Numous and Dabi states that he thought so hard about it he went crazy and considering this whole arc was about Endeavour trying to become a better hero, husband and father I think it’s kinda too obvious in which direction Horikoshi wanted to go with this considering the fact that in chapter 192 the Natsuo mentions the last brother which’s name is Touya, who is even older then Natsuo himself as he is referring to him as older brother. Natsuo talks about the abuse they all suffered from and why he can’t forgive Endeavour for his wrong doings. He even refers to a bigger incident happening to Touya which obviously lead to him leaving home since we don’t see him directly in any of the chapters about the Todoroki family. Which is strange. So he’s either dead or went away at some point.
Endeavour realized that he had fucked up all those years ago and mentions that he tries to redeem himself and try to not only be a better hero from now on but also a better husband and father. Natsuo doesn’t believe him, too hurt from the past to even giving him a second chance, although Fuyumi thinks that all is lost and that maybe Natsuo never be able to forgive Endeavour it’s Shoto who reassures her that it’s the first time he saw his brother so emotional which implies that he thinks that there’s a big chance that he comes around.
What I like the most about this chapter is the fact, that not only Endeavour got a scar in his face, the same side Shoto has his, which he also comments on, but that Endeavour himself says that he thinks it’s too late for apologies and that he can only atone for his sins and try to become a better human, learning from his past mistakes.
What gives me hope is the fact that we all know that Shoto himself suffered a lot under Endeavour - he lost his mother, the only person who was there for him, was never able to play or spend time with his siblings and was forced to grow up on his own without much human interaction, no real love since all he did was train - Shoto himself is willing to give him a chance as a father because he can see how much he has already changed as a hero, how much he already grew as a person in this aspect so he gives him a chance to prove himself as a father and I so hope that he will use that chance.
I think those months since All Might’s forced retirement mellowed Endeavour out a bit, there is a reference in this chapter where he recalls a talk he had with All Might about what it means to be a hero and about what his purpose is as a hero and the image he has in his head while thinking back to that conversation is not only All Might but rather Shoto while he reassuringly smiles at those children, using his fire side. I think that is the point where Endeavour decided for himself that he needs to change because his son, who rejected the quirk he had so much, changing so much that he can freely use his fire while smiling was like a wake up call for him.
I really liked those two chapters because it gives me so much hope for this character and I really am excited how much he has changed the next time we see more from him, maybe even get to know more about Touya.
Which was your favourite part?
