Lace didn’t exactly have a normal childhood, as she lost her hearing completely when she was six years old. In spite of that, she was a very good-natured child and did very well in school. She never let her limitations get her down!
When she was a teen, the doctors told her that she was a good candidate for a cochlear implant that might restore her hearing. She was very nervous and decided not to have the surgery for several years, for fear that it might not work. It was only about a year ago that she actually decided to bite the bullet and get the surgery. It took a few months afterward before she heard anything at all, but her sense of hearing is slowly returning now and she’s re-discovering the magic of a world with sound.
