Hey there folks! Welcome to February's bird OC challenge! I hope the first month of the year treated everyone well, and that you're all ready for a very colourful birb to work with.
I give you all the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher (Ceyx erithaca)!
I want to thank @rainymeadows for suggesting this one a while back in the Storm Hawks server.
Found mostly in South-East Asia and the Indian subcontinent, these birds are most common in deciduous and evergreen forest habitats, along with alluvial forests and mangroves (other habitats can be found on the wikipedia page). Despite being called kingfishers, they aren't primarily piscivores, and are usually found eating insects such as mantises and beetles, likely due to their size, as they can weigh an average of nine grams.
The deadline for this month is Sunday the 26th of February, 8pm GMT. As always, rules and extra images, including an optional colour palette are below the cut.

Storm Hawks Bird OC Challenge - September 2022 - FIRST ANNIVERSARY 🎉
Hey Storm Hawks!! Wow, has it really been a year already? That really crept up on me.
As a bit of a callback to the Quetzal from last year, this month I'd like to show you all the Diederik Cuckoo (Chrysococcyx caprius)!
Pictured above, a male (left) and a female (right). Unfortunately I can't find a better profile of the female bird at the moment.
This bird gets its name from its loud, persistent deed-deed-deed-deed-er-ick call, and commonly resides in sub-Saharan Africa and the Arabian Peninsula. Like the name implies, it's a brood parasite. It lays a single egg in the nests of other birds; mainly African weaver birds such as the Village Weaver. Juveniles have a red bill and their colours are more brown than copper, with brown blotches on the flanks. They're solitary, with a preferred habitat of open woodland, savanna and riverside brushes.

This time we're taking a look at the Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius).
Secretarybirds are large, mostly terrestrial birds of prey that are largely active in the day. While they're in the same biolobical order (Acciptiriformes) as kites, harriers, hawks and vultures, they actually have their own biological family group, Sagittarriidae. They can get as tall as 4'3", and are known for their habit of killing adders and cobras by kicking them to death with their long legs. Featured on the coat of arms for Sudan and South Africa, unfortunately the species is classed as endangered by the ICUN.

Here we are Storm Hawks! It's August, time for a new bird in the challenge! This month we're going for the Baltimore Oriole (Icterus galbula)!

This is the state bird of Maryland USA, and the mascot for the baseball team of the same name. It's part of the Icterus family, and is closely related to several species of American blackbirds. The name Oriole derives from the Latin word aureolus, meaning "golden". As migratory passerine birds, they naturally tend to venture southwards to warmer climates during the winter months.
