‘ life— the thing that happens to us. ’

Hel knew the intent of her brother’s words were to comfort. But all they had done was strike a flame of guilt within her chest. She didn’t need to ask herself how her brother came to be in Helheim; he was dead. As accustomed to the concept of death that she was, her heart still ached at the still-young face of her younger brother…the boy she remembered looking onto as a newborn babe. Despite the shadow of facial hair against his face, she could only see a baby where he stood. He was too young to be down here with her just yet; he was supposed to grow up and give her nieces and nephews…not be slaughtered like a boar and have his body defiled, all in the name of revenge for Baldr.
Odin was a despicable son of a bitch. But not even Hel could’ve predicted him murdering a child…a baby. He’d once quested to be the wisest God of all time, but he was still a blind fool. His track of vengeance was no better than that of a human. He was no ‘wise God’. The level of his monstrosity put Hel and her monstrous siblings to shame.
Crossing her arms over her chest, the Goddess idly paced the icy ground of her realm. Turning her back towards her brother, her anger beginning to boil and simmer within her chest. “ But you never even got to live it, Narfi…this…this world never even gave you a chance,” She said, her tone sharp.
Her heart ached even deeper at the truth that leered, practically over her brother’s shoulder at her. This was her fault. The short laugh she had gotten from sending Odin–the man responsible for throwing her down here in the first place–on a quest she knew would hit a dead end, she was now paying for. It was ironic, the deal she’d made and the battle she fought now; she would’ve only released Baldr’s soul if every one of the nine realms wept for him. Now, it was her fighting against her own tears and tightened throat, as she stared into the face of the little brother she had once begged her step-mother and father to produce.
Life…the thing that happens to us.
The guilt weighed heavily on her and as much as her brother deserved the truth…she couldn’t tell him. She felt a string of fear through her. It wasn’t Life that happened…it was her. She had killed him indirectly. The thought of her hand in his death struck a thought of Vali; her brother’s twin. The baby of the family.
“ Did you both… ” Hel asked, her voice a whisper. A part of her worried; had Vali died and passed onto another realm? Were the Norns capable of a cruelty so large as to separate two twin brothers as close as what Narfi and Vali had been? Allowing one to rest in Hel and the other in another location? “ Where is Vali? ” the worry for her brothers multiplied.

The coldness of the weather usually didn’t faze Sjöfn at all. Coming from Alfheim where it usually was cold, winter was never a problem. There was something different about the air in the past few days. Her hands rubbed her arms as she tried to herself in her own body heat. Then she turned to Narfi just to check up on him. “Are you still feeling alright?” Not noticing that her mouth was shaking as she spoke, she heard Narfi offered his coat to him.
Sjöfn looked at him once more and then his coat. “Are you sure? I mean, I’m really okay. Alfheim weather is similar to this. However, this cold is a little bit harsher, I couldn’t deny that.” With a little bit of hesitation, she let him put the coat on her shoulders. She gave him a side glance and tried to hide the little smile that appeared on her face.
“I think we would need to look for a shelter. The horses seemed to be tired too.”
chainfated replied to your post: “I wonder who could’ve called on this blood storm...
Ten bucks says Vali wins. >:)
Are you, Narfi, the Golden Child, placing a bet on which one of our beloved siblings die first?

@chainfated Narfi refrained from rolling his eyes at the other – if they’d been hoping to get a rise of fear from him, they hadn’t been successful. His father was the liar of all liars, so he was used to dishonesty, deceit, and betrayal. It had become second-nature to Narfi to assume that everyone wore a mask, but he was immune to the surprise. He was always fair-minded, accepting, and welcoming to all but only fools thought he gave them an ounce of his trust. He lifted his gaze and locked it with his opponent, refusing to break the eye contact. “Are you going to shut up and kill me, or are you going to just stand there and chit-chat, like a mewling quim?” “If you’re going to talk, make some tea, pull up a chair and talk.” He calmly ordered, narrowing his eyes at the other. “If you’re going to kill me, then draw your weapon and do it, already. If I have to listen to another moment of you being a moron, I’ll do it myself. ”
There really hadn’t been a time where a being on a level with demi-god strolled into town and Jason would have been fine with that. They’re almost always trouble.
And so was he.
It wasn’t hard to track down and barge in on Narfi, fully suited and prepared to draw whatever weapon he had that may harm a god. They locked eyes, and listed as he spoke, remaining restrained as not to get into an unnecessary fight. That he could very easily lose.
A moment passed, as the dust settled, before The Red Hood spoke “I’m perfectly happy to hash this out” he responded, an ounce of seriousness in his town, “But I’m keeping out of arm’s reach”

It has not been that long since they became friends. Compared to Vali, Narfi was easier to relate with. In a short time, Sjöfn felt close with him. She felt it easier to share to him things that she never thought she would share with anyone. Back in Alfheim, she never really felt like she belonged; and her father, Freyr was always joining the Aesir more.
When finally he decided to take her with him, it was a different experience. Somehow, she felt like she belonged in Asgard. She met other gods and goddess around her age, but the one who felt at ease was Loki’s sons. It surprised her, but her true nature understood theirs. Despite that, she still found it difficult to tell him what she shouldn’t have told him earlier.
She let out a sigh and looked away from him. Could she really tell him that she was going to be banished to Midgard and would be able to see him anymore? There was not even a certainty that he didn’t care. No one would care if she would disappear in this realm. She wouldn’t even know if the banishment would be lifted come Ragnarök.
“Nothing’s wrong, Narfi. I didn’t even think that I would see you today. I mean, I wanted to see you, but it’s nothing. I’m sorry for worrying you.” She took a deep breath and nodded. “I should go. Goodbye, Narfi.”

Alright, he has a point. Because of what he said, Sjöfn ended up tongue-tied for a little while. She rolled her eyes at him and raised her hands. “I swear, you’re being like Vali day by day.” Then she smiled and laughed.
“There’s nothing wrong with it. I’m gonna let you be a brat today. What else do you need, my lord?” She curtsied to him. She looked at him through her eyelashes as the sun cast through her red hair that made it look like they were on fire.
Sjöfn straightened herself up and pushed Narfi to turn towards the West. “Would you like to go hunting with me?”
