I never knew Chad Cooke, but the way that his family and friends, and even friends of friends, speak of him, he was truly remarkable. I’ve read what his would-be fiance writes about him, how his former pastor speaks of him, and see the memories he made with his siblings, and from these things, I can begin to understand what they all mean when they say that Chad lived his life intentionally.Â
I’ve worn my Chad Effect bracelet enough for words to fade, but it wasn’t until recently that I started to take a page from his book. Three months ago, I filled every inch of my car, moved out of my parents house, and made the venture to Los Angeles. I had a comfortable life in Chicago, a steady job, a roof over my head, and a man that loved me unconditionally. And for some reason, I decided to uproot myself, and take on this adventure by myself. I still haven’t decided if this was the bravest or dumbest thing I’ve ever done. What I do know is that I’m here, and I will like life intentionally until I can figure it out.Â
Chad’s life has changed me for the good, and I only wish that he did not have to die in order to make such an incredible impact.Â
