This, ladies and gents, is The Christmas Setup, a gay Christmassy rom-com that should have been too sweet to be true but it is! There’s no drama about coming out, not an ounce of negativity; it’s light, cheery, and absolutely everything a queer heart could want!
Remember when someone wished a gay rom-com with Katherine Heigl and then in 2015 we got Jenny's Wedding?
Well, in 2020 we got The Christmas House, which had a side gay couple looking to adopt.
And then we got Happiest Season that featured a lesbian couple dealing with coming out.
Well, if you watched and liked these movies, The Christmas Setup is like the cherry on top!
Highly recommend it; the chemistry between the actors is amazing!
Because they’re married! Yep, Ben Lewis and Blake Lee are married in real life!
Oh, and Fran Drescher is a delight!
A Cheerful Christmas (2019)
A Cheerful Christmas - photo preview (2 of 3)
Lauren (Erica Deutschman) and her best friend Colleen (Tianna Nori) have established the business of their dreams: making people’s Yuletide wishes come true as personal “Christmas Coaches.” Four years to the day after signing their first client, the partners score a major coup when they are hired by the Anderson family, wealthy British royals who have relocated to America from London. The Anderson job represents a challenge – and not only because a prominent family’s endorsement could take their business to the next level. Lauren and Colleen are accustomed to working directly with their clients, but Mr. and Mrs. Anderson are currently in London and not expected back until December 23. Instead, the Christmas Coaches find themselves with a barebones list of instructions that gives no clue about how the family likes to celebrate the holiday. And it seems unlikely that they will get any hints from the Andersons’ handsome, impeccably mannered son, James (Chad Connell), who is busy negotiating an important acquisition for his father’s company. Lauren, however, won’t be deterred in her mission to provide the Andersons with their most magical Christmas ever. She establishes a warm rapport with the family’s longtime housekeeper, Joyce (Jennifer Vallance), who reveals the Andersons reveled in Christmas festivities when they lived in London. Intrigued to discover that the reserved James was once the life of the party, Lauren begins prodding him about his family traditions. Soon James is not only sharing his memories; he’s joining Lauren in the kinds of seasonal activities he always loved. As she helps James rediscover his Christmas spirit Lauren realizes she is falling for this considerate, good-hearted man. But she’s all too aware that she’s an outsider in his world of polo matches and ballroom dancing. And she perceives that she has competition in the form of James’ lifelong friend and current colleague, Maryam (Samantha Madely), an accomplished lawyer. Meanwhile, Lauren has taken a big risk in pursuing her vision for the Anderson family’s annual Christmas party. It will be the night that determines if she has kept her promise to give the family the best Christmas ever – and if she has truly won James’ heart.
