Hello, Magpie! I just wanted to tell you how much I love Atdbis 1. At the start of 2025, I’ve spent a month just being completely immersed in it: I re-read it several times, looked up information on prosthetics and skin grafting, sketched prosthetic limbs, goldfinches and a polaroid, durian and pelmeni (them being a familiar food I saw with fresh eyes now). Since then, I read the story again every couple of months; I just start to long for it. I remember parts of it by heart, and quote it to myself, but every time I’m just as captivated and don’t want to miss a sentence.
I think about Anya and Curly often. They feel like friends, like a couple of neighbors I could’ve known, living through the familiar everyday adult struggle, while having survived horrific things. The infinite patience and care they have for each other is so inspiring. Their healing and strength is so inspiring. This fanfic plus their backstory shows such a profound love story that I’m thankful to you that I got to experience it.
I also wanted to point out the goldfinch symbolism that you wrote (just wow!), the references to the original (like the TV, the tulips or canned peaches), the little details like the tied off pants, the tea towels, the watch on the inside of the wrist, that make the reading experience so tangible. I still find things to think about upon re-reads, like last time I thought how Curly’s flat could remind of the Tulpar with the communal areas and separated rooms for sleeping, but here Anya has her own space and can lock the door, but doesn’t, because she is safe with Curly.
I’m hoping it’ll be possible for me to make fanarts for the fanfic, and I wanted to ask you, would it be ok to include moments from the ending, or things like the durian, because these are perhaps spoilers? Again, thank you so much for writing and sharing this story, it is a much beloved companion through a period of my life.
