The reason Navratri is celebrated for nine days is because Maa Durga fought the demon mahisasur for nine days and nine nights, and on the tenth day, she killed mahisasur: The day we celebrate Dusshera.

How to Worship During Navratri
Cleanse the space in your home or in a temple and decorate it with flowers and a light diya.
Set up the image or idol of maa durga, offer flowers, fruits, sweets, and a light diya for worship.
Light a ghee lamp every morning and evening, recite mantras like “ॐ दुं दुर्गायै नमः” or the Durga Saptashati, and meditate.
Observe fast or eat sattvic food during the nine days of Navratri.
Chant and meditate on a mantra after lighting the ghee diya in the morning or evening.
Many people gather for Garba, Dandiya Raas, or bhajan sessions, reinforcing collective spiritual strength.
