For Amos it was two times he can distinctly remember. Once was the first time Naomi looked at him with - not necessarily fear persay, but apprehension, like he was dangerous to her. He looked at himself and hated what he saw. Violence to him is second nature, it's what he's good at, and he has no real qualms about being a gun pointed in a direction. He doesn't (didn't) care about Holden being apprehensive, because Naomi understands him, but her being nervous or hesitant around him? He felt like a monster.
The second, was after the talk with the scientist they pulled from the monitoring station Thoth. The one who's empathy center was shut off. Because if they could look at what was done to Eros, to the innocent Belters who lived there and anyone visiting - and just gloss over it like nothing? What separated their lack of morality from Amos' own casual response to violence? What was the line that kept him from being a monster just like them?
