Biofeedback is a real thing in this case taken, in true One Piece fashion, to ludicrous extremes. It works kinda sorta like Kumadori says here: By becoming more aware of and thus able to control the normally automatic systems of the body. For an extremely simplified example, anxiety elevates the heart rate, but someone who is versed in biofeedback would be able to lower their heart rate, and in turn feel less anxious.
I think this would be an interesting explanation on how Chopper’s able to control the majority of his Devil Fruit forms post timeskip, with a little help from the advances in his rumble balls. I feel like it’d be a natural segue for Chopper to confront and accept all the different aspects of himself, even the parts that are monstrous.
And maybe that’s what happened off screen during the time skip. I just think it would have been nice to see if fleshed out a little bit more.
I really appreciate how Oda’s fleshed out the Six Powers system by giving everyone in CP9 variations on the different techniques. It’s hard to come up with a bunch of interesting fights when all the antagonists have the same base move set, but I think Oda pulled it off really well
It’s ironic, because Kumadori actually has the ultimate self-control that comes with life return, whereas Chopper’s about ready to purposefully lose all control over his mind and body in an attempt to save his friend
