⟢ Chapter 1
What do you call a half-fae, half-human? A joke that might lose you a hand, if you were to say it around Nadia on a day when she was feeling more vicious. On a good day, you’d only lose a finger. Not that you’d ever see that coming, given how sweet and charming she appears. The result of a human mother, Maria, who had fallen for a handsome and mysterious fae many moons ago, leaves a girl who’s not entirely sure what she is or where she belongs. A girl who has had to fight for her place, and will hold on with everything she has. A girl who has long since outlived her mother, and never known the identity of the Fae that helped bring her life.
⟢ Chapter 2
The story of how Nadia fell in with the pirates, when she was still young, is not one she repeats often. It’s a tale as old as time, the way children follow in their parents footsteps. Much like her father, the man she despised, she fell for a human. One who sailed the Elysian. Unlike her father, however, who took what he wanted from Maria and then cast her aside, never knowing he had a child, Nadia felt the strong tug of her heart and followed it out to sea. But that’s the thing, when you love an immortal. Soon enough, she was alone again. The story of her lover's death never once repeated, only known among those older pirates on the ship who had been there to witness it. But there she stayed. The ship, the unforgiving ocean that surrounded it, the unruly humans – all now her home.
⟢ Chapter 3
Sometimes, though, curiosity will get the better of her. She can’t be blamed, she’s only (half) human, after all. To many, she would be placed as a Fae. The beauty and grace with which she holds herself, and the clothes bought (or stolen) using her pirate ware, she blends into Old Elysia, and the night long parties held by the Fae. She is convinced she would know her father, if she were to see him, but what then? How many festivities has she attended, how many faces has she searched looking to find her own dark eyes mirrored back at her. How many nights has she left disappointed, but more importantly disappointed in herself for letting her will fail. It was moments of weakness like these, and the days that followed, that made Nadia clear that she didn’t truly belong in either places she found herself. She was too beautiful, too at ease despite her cruel ruthlessness to completely blend in on the ship; she’d barely aged whilst those pirates who truly know her had lived a life time, whilst some have built entire families. But to the Fae, she was too human. There was something off about her, something that screamed that she didn’t belong. To most who saw her, however, she was simply a pretty girl, and she was certainly going to use that to her advantage.
