   𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐮𝐭𝐞𝐬  𝐝𝐨𝐧’𝐭  𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭  𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧  𝐲𝐨𝐮’𝐫𝐞  𝐰𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠  𝐟𝐨𝐫  𝐚  𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫  𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞.  gathering  a  bundle  of  dirt  on  her  boots,  not  preoccupied  for  the  seething  of  the  fire  consuming  itself.  at  least  until  she  was  back.  it  feeds  off  aerith’s  oxygen  then,  only  then,  and  tifa  can  feel  herself  breathing  a  little  easier,  too,   ‘‘   aerith,  you’re  back———  !  oh.   ’’

   𝗼𝗵.  the  sound  of  a  pulse,  zapped  into  quickening.  𝙤𝙝  !  it  doesn’t  come  as  a  surprise  she’s  on  par,  if  not  a  shade  prettier,  deeper,  to  the  ribbon.  no  watering  down  the  devotion  when  she’s  on  the  spotlight:  her  hands  stutter  to  reach  out  for  it  (  𝘤𝘢𝘯  𝘪  ? )  and  tie  it  neatly  to  hide  her  hair  tie,  never  her  smile.

   ‘‘   thank  you  !  i  promise  i  won’t  forget  to  put  it  on.   ’’

   threading  the  line  between  body  and  dirt,  it  almost  seems  like  there’s  not  a  difference  at  all.  tifa  goes  over  the  mantra:   ‘‘   𝐰𝐞  𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧  𝐭𝐨  𝐭𝐡𝐞  𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦,  that  much  we  know,  don’t  we  ?   ’’   it  takes  the  veil  off  her  eyes,  a  gloss  you  can’t  think  of  replicating.  her  enunciation  is  meant  to  have  a  bite  to  it,  but  accompanying  it  with  an  expression  like  that  can  only  make  one  think  of  a  flower  closing  up.  not  withering,  no.  only  going  back  to  the  basics.  a  bud,  or  in  other  words,  a  little  girl.  one  impatient  at  the  prospect  she  may  finally  know  what  happened  to  her  mother  then,  or  meet  again  with  her  father.  one  that  hopes  afterlife  works  that  way,

   one  that  can’t  wrap  her  head  around  whatever  the  end  is.

   why  is  𝘴𝘩𝘦  asking  𝘩𝘦𝘳  ?  what  would  tifa  know  that  aerith  doesn’t  ?  it  wouldn’t  come  as  a  surprise  aerith  knew  the  hidden  passageways  of  the  soul,  routes  that  lead  everything  that  dies.  putting  it  that  way,  tifa  feels  it  sink.  not  realization,  just  her  stomach.
