Blue Celadon is by far a glaze above all the others at Laney College. It has a stunning consistency in color and shine no matter what clay body on which it is thrown.

Teacher: alright so to learn this technique I suggest you try it on a cube shape.
Me: Uh, can I make something else?
Teacher: Sure. It might be harder, but dedication is good. What did you have in mind?
Me: I’d like to build an icosahedron.
Teacher: ... a what?
Me: This. (Shows a d20)
Teacher: that’s... going to be a challenge, are you sure?
Me (a stubborn f*ck): Yes.
Later:
Yea, none of us thought it would work, but here we are!

Second favorite glaze is the Copper Red. It runs fast, so exterior applications are verboten in the class, as first-time glazers will dunk their pieces to its bottom, resulting in the glaze fusing with the kiln shelves. A costly mistake... The shift from red to purple-blue in highly concentrated areas is always a treat to behold. Large bowl is Ivory Paper Clay. Small vessel is Rod’s Bod Clay.
Yesterday at work, one of my 17 year old metalhead students who always wears the same Slipknot shirt every week, asked to put some music on during class. I said sure, and was expecting to hear some Mushroomhead, Iron Butterfly and of course, Metallica. Then it happened, I heard ridiculously good jazz come out of the speakers, I stopped talking and looked up at him and said, "Is this?" and he smiled and said "Yes, yes it is, Oscar Peterson." So for the rest of the night, I taught my ceramic class listing to Oscar Peterson.
