Then come spring, they shot down all of my requests for apartments and said "well if you don't find anything just live on campus again," to which I said "actually............" (because the deadline to reapply had passed). Then my mom got really mad (I was just trying to save her money!!!) and made me reapply late, with the full knowledge that I probably wouldn't even get to pick what room I ended up in and may have ended up in a late-application triple (aka a normal two-person room with three people stuffed inside). So over the summer the day for me to pick my housing rolls around and LO AND BEHOLD, THERE ARE 0 AVAILABLE ROOMS ON CAMPUS! But because I had a housing contract I was guaranteed a room eventually. Towards the end of the summer, I got an email telling me I'd be moved into temporary overflow housing! Here's how that works:
Basically, they push more people than they can hold into housing contracts because $$$, knowing that there isn't room for everyone
There's a special dorm tower that's just for people who do Spring/Summer school  years (instead of Fall/Spring)
They push all the kids that they don't have room for during the fall into that tower, with the provision that they'll all be moved out
Instead of making it so that everyone moves out at the end of the fall semester, they start cycling people out in a weird lottery the first week of school through early October
If you get moved during those weeks, you have 72 hours to clear out entirely and move into your new room
If you don't get moved, you get to stay put for the rest of the semester.
So I, thinking "hey I could only be here for like three weeks or something!!" didn't bring a lot of my stuff up to school with me, including clothes and books (tears for my books) and stuff. BUT, apparently they only placed a few dozen people during those weeks (out of the roughly 500 overflow housing kids) so I (and my roommate I hate and the other two roommates I'm more or less indifferent about) got to stay until the end of the semester, knowing that some time in November we'd be assigned to our permanent rooms and could move in whenever the previous occupant moved out. (FUN FACT: If that person doesn't move out until the very end of the semester, I have to haul all my shit home and store it over winter break, THEN bring it all back after! I live four hours from my university! My parents both work! I don't even have a car!)
Today at random I decided to check and see if I had been assigned, and LO AND BEHOLD! I HAD! So as soon as some girl named Alisha moves out (I hope she's graduating or she got an internship and it's not for a nasty reason!) I get to move in! My new dorm is the fancy upperclassmen dorm, Keys, where I'll have a full-sized kitchen and living room to share with my three new roommates and A BEDROOM ALL TO MYSELF!! It's ALSO where Riley lives, even in the same building and only a floor away! I'm basically ecstatic because this really couldn't have worked out any better than it did (except if maybe Alisha cleared out now and I could move in soooon) and it's a big weight off my chest because this has just been a really stressful situation.Â
So that's what's up! (PS if you were tagged in this post it's 'cause you commented on/like the original and I care about you <3)
