Etienne 100% believes in fortune-telling. They pretend that they’re just “into it for fun” and that they “would never want to know the future for real” but they always ask fortune-tellers earnest, big questions in their life, and even though in the past they’ve definitely had a fortune they asked about demonstrably not turn out exactly true, they’re the type to do mental gymnastics to say that it did actually fit. They know it is a little immature and embarrassing, especially for someone who is otherwise rather pragmatic and reasonable about things, but they just can’t seem to help but place some faith in it.

what do you do to “set the mood” when writing?

A lot of times I’ll listen to music, either an album or a specific song that I feel invokes the mood of what I’m trying to convey! There are many pieces that are permanently tied to a specific song that I listened to a lot while I wrote. For the last few weeks it’s been a lot of David Bowie.

what tropes do you LOVE writing? which ones are your guilty pleasure?

LOVE

- characters in denial of falling in love

- hurt/comfort

- couples who would appear to have one dynamic and have the opposite, or couples who have one type of dynamic in public and a different one in private

- shippy ‘firsts’, first kisses, first time together, first time falling in love, etc.

GUILTY PLEASURES

- uh... extreme hurt/comfort, like where really unspeakable things have happened and all that can be done is for one party to wrap the other in blankets

- proposing a million mad spinoffs and AUs of my character in my own mind, mostly not shippy ones so much as “what if Etienne got kidnapped by and got tortured and now they’re eviiiiiil” and “what if Adi became a primal” or coffee shop AUs etc.

- on that note, imagining what my characters’ totally sweet music careers and music videos would be like

- AND WHAT IF THEY HAD BABIES WHAT WOULD THEY BE LIKE.

- love lasting over lifetimes, reincarnation situations where one soul finds the other after dying, or people meet and fall in love after having forgotten one another

- characters accidentally info dumping or revealing feelings due to a spell/drunkenness/being half-asleep/extreme duress, etc.

- I super loved playing Etienne when they couldn’t talk and I’d love to have them undergo something like that again?? ;;
