All the beauty and harmony of Sicily are captured in this terracotta vase dating from the 3rd–2nd century BC, found in Centuripe, Sicily (Italy).
(English / Español / Italiano)
The scene depicted on this Greek vase shows four female figures: a bride surrounded by handmaidens (or perhaps the women of the family accompanying her in the wedding procession).
It is reminiscent of the murals from the same period, with delicate figures rendered with care and attention to detail.
The colours are still beautiful: the women are wearing dresses in soft shades of pink, lavender and blue; a pale white defines the bride’s sheer veil, whilst bright yellow and deep red highlight the jewellery, suggesting combinations of gold and coloured gemstones.
Made for a tomb, the vase served a purely symbolic purpose; it may depict a bride who died prematurely. The shape of the lid imitates the architecture of a Greek temple.
The artefact is housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

The Town of Centuripe in Sicily, Italy
Centuripe, Sicily, Italy.
Many remains of the ancient city, mostly of the Roman period, still exist and numerous antiquities, including some fine Hellenistic terra-cottas, were discovered in casual excavations.
Other sights include the Chiesa Madre (17th century) and the ruins of the so-called Castle of Conradin, in fact a Roman mausoleum of the Imperial age.
I can personally recommend going on Google Street View and zooming around Centuripe! The views are amazing!
