India is set to conduct its first fully digital Census in 2027, introducing a major shift in the data collection process. From April 17 to May 1, citizens will be able to participate in a Self-Enumeration (SE) process, allowing them to fill out 33 census-related questions online via a government portal using their mobile number.

After registration, users will receive a unique ID, which can be shown to census officials during their visit starting May 2, making the process faster and more efficient.

This digital shift aims to make the census process faster, more accurate, and more transparent, improving planning for government welfare schemes and national policies.

India is set to launch one of the largest administrative exercises in the world’s history. More than three million officials are expected to launch the India Census 2027, a massive exercise in population surveying set to take a year to complete. Beginning on April 1st, the census marks the beginning of a nationwide population survey in more than a decade and is expected to play a significant role in guiding India’s future policy decisions.
