“i missed you.”
Rocket nodded at first, just to let her know he heard what she was saying, but he didn't say anything right away. He let the words sink in for a bit, his hands fighting a bit even though he had nothing between them, just touching at his own fingers.
His mouth opened, and he was about to speak, but he cleared his throat instead, his amber eyes looking down, at nothing in particular.
"M-missed you too," he said in a half stammer. "Can't tell you how many times I wished you were back... probably... like six?"
He spoke in his usual half-hearted jesting tone, masking his feelings just enough he didn't feel too vulnerable.
Being missed, knowing someone could miss him... that was something he wasn't use to hearing. While he missed all the Guardians so deeply when they were spirited away by Thanos, but there was no assurance they would have felt the same if it had been him, and part of him worried it wouldn't be. Deep down he worried that something about him was so inherently unlovable that if anything happened to him it'd be nothing more than an inconvenience to his team.
That was before everyone saved his life, that was before he saw what lengths they'd go for him and what he wanted to do, what he needed to do.
"Maybe more than six," he added, being a bit more truthful.
