Continued thoughts on The Wiseman’s Fear. The rest of the Adem Arc.
First and foremost...Vashet having sex with Kvothe was ew. Yes yes Adem have different standards and what not when it comes to sex but still...Kvothe is freakin 15 and Vashet is a grown ass woman of 25! And his teacher besides. So again, Ew. I will say one good thing about it...it didn’t happen as horribly as I feared it would. I had been forewarned about it...and so when Vashet’s first words to Kvothe are ‘you’re mine’ I was dreading she’d have Kvothe sleep with her as some sort of payment for her Tutelage. Like that Greek Philosopher practice I forget the name of (Pedantry?). So the fact that the arc came about to deal with Kvothe’s boner, while still ew, wasn’t as bad as I feared it would be. I’ll give it this, while it’s still ew because Kvothe is fucking (no pun intended) 15, I’m glad none of his encounters (baring the first with Felurian because magic allure?) have been non consensual. Still...Ewwwwwwww. Seriously Vashet just leave Kvothe to get rid of it on his own(And of course these encounters keep happening!) And of course he also ends up sleeping with Penthe (who is...20 I think? Or was she only a year or two older than Kvothe?). Of course. The stuff with Penthe was actually quite interesting. Her reaching out to Kvothe, working on understanding facial Expressions. Good stuff. And what? Everyone wants to sleep with Kvothe? Seriously?? Vashet slapping Kvothe was amazing. Kvothe later playing Music for Vashet was also a very nice scene. I am not a fan of the sex scenes due to those involved...but I will say there is some very pretty writing. I’ll give it that. The trials were cool. Kvothe’s new sword is cool. Yay Tempi is back! I hope one day in her quest to learn every Ketan ever that Celean one day attends the University. That would be cool. Deep Names huh? Interesting... Overall I enjoyed this little arc with the Adem...barring certain exceptions of course. Favorites are probably Tempi, Penthe, and Celean. Excellent world building with the Ademic culture. I will say by this point I was starting to feel the Adem was overstaying they’re welcome (there’s so much freakin left!)...and now Kvothe is leaving. That would seem to be fairly good pacing. Also, we finally learn a teensy bit more about the Chandrian! FINALLY! Make of this what you will.
