My belief is that humans should do the most to reduce unnecessary suffering, but there will always be suffering because we are animals. I mean, if all beef and dairy farms close one day, the cows and bulls will just be released in the wild to be devoured or to starve outside due to being born in captivity. So ethics is more complicated than "I'll stop eating animals and only eat quinoa". Not eating an animal doesn't mean they're safe.
I tried to ask a vegan what would happen to all the excess animals that would be left over from not eating them and they couldn’t give me a straight answer outside “It’ll work, somehow!”
The simple fact is if people stopped eating animals and animal byproducts the cost of taking care of those animals would be insane and there would be no choice but to mass slaughter a ton of animals
I also asked “what happens to all the corpses of these animals when they die” and again, they couldn’t come up with an answer outside a bunch of theoretical statistics that had nothing to do with all the dead animals that we’d have to take care of and let die off if we didn’t kill them for meat.
