I'm going to yap about Aerina Targaryen tonight and the topic for tonight is her not liking her feet touching the bare floor because of Aerion, and more importantly the consequences because of it. Walk with me because there's much more than just that. From the beginning, Aerina was told about her purity, which is a very influential trait because it gives her a lot of power (or so they say). This idea essentially shapes her from a young age, making her virtue a core part of her identity, even when she doesn’t fully understand what it means at first because she is so young. Later, when in House Targaryens eyes she isn’t so young an incident with Aerion causes an immediate spiral- it's not just about the virtue and purity culture within House Targaryen, but also because Aerina doesn't remember what happened. Despite her lack of memory, there are obvious problems cause by the situation, like her feet touching the bare floor or feeling exposed, which in her mind equates to being dirty and unclean which is an image drilled into her since she was literally born. Her memory blackouts are a response to trauma and abuse she went through that night because of Aerion, fueling my girls inner turmoil as to why can't she understand feeling both clean and disgusting, or why she can’t just be normal by “Targaryen standards.” She doesn’t realize it’s quite literally because Aerion took something from her, and her body is trying to protect itself by blocking her memories (even though she has obvious triggers because of the attack), which unfortunately makes her appear mad (by Targaryen history) and accused of witchcraft because people thought she used “methods” for evil when it was in reality to try and recover her full memory!!!
Aerina Targaryen my complex girl but yeah, I just felt like yapping about her even though her fanfic with Lyonel isn’t out yet. I just like talking about her because I’m literally the only one who knows all her lore but YEAHHH ENJOY SOME LORE..😋
